Without ever slowing down, FC Porto beat Coimbrões 5-0 in the third elimination round of the Portuguese Cup

This Saturday, FC Porto beat Coimbrões 5-0 in the third elimination round of the Portuguese Cup. The blue and whites controlled the match right from the start and are in the next round, before the return to European duty.

Sérgio Conceição, who had promised a motivated team, with full respect for Coimbrões, couldn’t have asked for a better start. Six minutes in, Luis Díaz recovered the ball in the opposing area and opened the scoreboard, later passing to Soares for the second goal of the evening. Despite the early lead, FC Porto didn’t slow down and increased the advantage with Mbemba, making the best of a deflection on Fábio Silva to shoot with his right foot, after some commotion in the area of the home team.

In full control of the match, the blue and whites had more opportunities to score until the end of the first-half. After an excellent play on the left, Manafá had Fábio Mesquita deny him a goal (19m), and Soares, from a free-kick taken by Bruno Costa, headed just outside the post (28m). Saravia actually scored, but he was off-side, in the last opportunity of the first-half.

The second-half had the same story, with the ball possession belonging to FC Porto, even if at a slower pace. Sérgio Conceição changed nine players for this match, and 64 minutes in he replaced Otávio with Romário Baró, returning from injury, in time to watch the fourth goal for the team. A great run from Soares, who passed to Luis Díaz. In front of Tiago Mesquita, the Colombian dribbled the goalkeeper and scored his second goal in the match (68m).

In the last 15 minutes, the blue and white coach sent in Sérgio Oliveira and Aboubakar and the Cameroonian striker could have scored, but the shot went over the bar (80m). The number 9 didn’t score, so the 49 had to. After a corner-kick, Diogo Leite dribbled two opponents and shot for goal. Tiago Mesquita saved it, but the ball ended up next to Fábio Silva, who scored his first goal for the main team of FC Porto (81m). A special and historic moment for the striker, who became the youngest scorer for the blue and whites, at 17 years and three months old, beating midfielder Rúben Neves (17 years, five months, three days).

A fair victory for the Dragons, who ended the match with six players from the youth teams of the club. The qualification to the fourth round is confirmed, but next is an European match at Estádio do Dragão, against Rangers (Thursday, 17h55).
