FC Porto beat Young Boys, 2-1, for matchday five of Group G

FC Porto won again in Europa League this Thursday, beating Young Boys (2-1), at Stade de Suisse, in Bern (Switzerland), for matchday five of Group G. Vincent Aboubakar (75m and 79m) was the scorer of the goals and the team led by Sérgio Conceição now has seven points and is in the second place, one point behind Rangers. The sixth matchday has a home match against Feyenoord (December 12, 20h00).

Aboubakar was the big news in the blue and white attack, as it was the first time the Cameroonian striker joined the starting team of the Dragons. The blue and whites started on top of the match and created danger next to the goal defended by David von Ballmoos, but the home team was the one opening the scoreboard, six minutes in, on the first time they reached the goal defended by Marchesín. The cross from Ulisses Garcia found its way to Christian Fassnacht, who made it count with a header.

Losing, the Dragons tried to react, but failed to pose real danger. 22 minutes in, Fassnacht was close to the second, but Marchesín denied the goal. Minute 25 had the best opportunity for FC Porto: Otávio found Marega, but the Malian failed to score. 30 minutes in, another opportunity for the Dragons, this time with Aboubakar heading outside the post, in good position. Just before the break, Cédric Zesiger tackled Marega in the area, but Hungarian referee Tamás Bognár didn’t call it and actually showed Sérgio Conceição a yellow card for disputing the decision.

In the second-half, FC Porto against started with danger and had the first opportunity 55 minutes in: first it was Corona shooting for a great save from the goalkeeper, and then it was Marega hitting an opponent. 68 minutes in, Corona received a cross from Manafá, but hit the side net; three minutes later, another penalty that wasn’t called for FC Porto, as Aboubakar was pushed in the area by Michel Aebischer.

The tie finally came 75 minutes in, in a play that started with Otávio, moved to Marega, and ended in Aboubakar, who made it count. The best minutes in the match for the blue and whites ended with a turnaround on the scoreboard, as Aboubakar took the intentional deflection from Marega to score his second in the match and put the Dragons in the lead for the first time, 79 minutes in. In stoppage time, Young Boys hit the post and was unable to tie the match. 2-1 for FC Porto, who are now second in the group, just one point behind the leader, Rangers.
