With the goals scored by Marega and Soares, FC Porto beat Sporting (2-1), in Alvalade, for matchday 15 of Liga NOS

This Sunday, FC Porto beat Sporting (2-1), at Estádio de Alvalade, for matchday 15 of the championship. Marega (6m) and Soares (73m) were the scorers of the blue and white goals, with the Dragons now reaching 38 points, four behind Benfica, first.

FC Porto started in full power and moved ahead on the scoreboard six minutes in, with Marega scoring: Tecatito Corona passed to the Malian forward and the number 11 merely deflected the ball to make it pass Luís Maximiano, putting the Dragons in the lead. In a first-half with few dangerous play, FC Porto again aimed for the goal, but Nakajima’s shot went slightly over the bar (34m).

Close to the break, after Sporting recovered the ball, Acuña was able to tie the match, beating Marchesín with a powerful and placed shot taken in the area (44m). The Lions started the second-half better and almost moved ahead, always with Luciano Vietto aiming for goal (48m, 62m and 64m). On the other end of the pitch, FC Porto was more efficient and scored again in Alvalade.

In a corner-kick taken by Alex Telles, Soares found himself alone in the area and headed it in, giving the lead on the scoreboard to FC Porto again (73m). Everything could have been settled shortly after, when Soares found Luis Díaz in front of Maximiano. The Colombian international failed to beat the goalkeeper and wasted a clear opportunity t make it 3-1 (75m).

Sporting tried to go all out on the attack and came centimetres from the tie, when Coates headed at the top bar after a corner-kick taken by Bruno Fernandes (85m). In stoppage time, Maximiano again prevented Luis Díaz from scoring (90+2m), but the excellent performance of the goalkeeper was not enough to stop FC Porto from getting three important points in Alvalade, winning again after 11 years. A new story was written.
