FC Porto lost at home to SC Braga, 2-1, for matchday 17 of the championship

FC Porto conceded the first defeat at home for domestic competitions, against SC Braga. Fransérgio and Paulinho scored for the opponent and the goal scored by Soares was not enough, with the Dragons wasting two penalties, while Braga was efficient.

Braga was fortunate right at the start of the match, as they got to the lead on the first goal situation created. Five minutes in, from a corner-kick on the left, the ball ended in Fransérgio, who shot just outside the area. The Dragons signalled an off-side for Raúl Silva in the small area, but Carlos Xistra validated the goal after checking the video referee.

The blue and white response didn’t take long and, in just one minute, the team led by Sérgio Conceição had two great situations. First, Manafá shot for goal, after a good individual play, but hit a defender (11m). From the resulting corner-kick, the goalkeeper then prevented Marcano from scoring in a header.

41 minutes in, Raúl Silva tackled Corona in the area, and Carlos Xistra signalled a penalty. However, Matheus, with his foot, saved Alex Telles’ shot. FC Porto was better in the first-half, but SC Braga made it to the break in the lead.

In the second-half, FC Porto started on top again, and, 56 minutes, had another penalty, this time for a tackle on Otávio done by David Carmo. But luck was definitely not on the Dragons’ side and Soares hit the post. The same Soares, however, was still able to tie the match two minutes later, after a run by Marega, who dribbled into the area and passed to the Brazilian forward.

The problem is that, 75 minutes in, again from a corner-kick, Paulinho scored for SC Braga, who ended up leaving Estádio do Dragão with a victory.
