Sustainable development is the motto set by the international organism that to build a “better world” until 2030
The campaign “Many Faces, launched by FC Porto and the British rock band James, raises awareness concerning several of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) that the United Nations - and, in particular, the World Tourism Organization (WTO/UNWTO), of which the FC Porto Museum is an affiliated - sets as crucial for the industry of tourism, in its program for 2030.
The awareness to subjects as relevant as equal opportunities, gender or not, and social inclusion are some of the examples of SDG that relate to the message of the campaign “Many Faces”.
In line with the objectives of sustainability set in 2015 by the United Nations, the campaign also includes a responsibilization in the promotion of equality for all audiences, a concern supported by the FC Porto Museum since its opening in 2013.
Mafalda Magalhães, director and head of operational management of the FC Porto Museum, added: “The role played by a museum must take in consideration the community around it. Considering this premise, widely promoted and discussed by the international museum community, the FC Porto Museum aims at creating access and inclusion conditions for the different audiences in all activities. The affiliation to the World Tourism Organization of the United Nations allows us to share this vision at a world scale, increasing our action in the promotion of our mission and values. Considering the objectives set by the United Nations for 2030, the FC Porto Museum will share this campaign with the World Tourism Organization, with the goal of spreading the message “Many Faces” next to hundreds of government and private bodies connected to the industry of tourism.”
Jorge Costa, chairman of the Institute for Planning and Developing Tourism (IPDT), signals the importance of the joint initiative between James and FC Porto in the context of the global goals to be reached in this decade: “The 17 Sustainable Development Goals, adopted by 193 countries, define the priorities of the sustainable development for 2030 and intend to call for a global effort to reach a set of common objectives and goals. We are all part of this global effort in the fight for inclusion, respect and equality between people, and sports is no exception. As this campaign is an important contribution to social appreciation and to the fight against discrimination, the IPDT had to praise the initiative and be a part of it.”
