Fábio Vieira, Marchesín, Sérgio Oliveira and Marko Grujic were the voice of the squad after getting the three points in the European match

It was the perfect night for FC Porto supporters to return to the stands of Estádio do Dragão. On a cold and rainy Tuesday night, the Porto Nation was once again close to their heroes and celebrated the first victory in the UEFA Champions League. Against Olympiacos, the blue and whites moved ahead thanks to Fábio Vieira who, after the match, admitted he has this “fantastic feeling” for which he worked “to the top of his capacities”, as did the team that, according to the young left midfielder, “was worthy of FC Porto from the beginning”. Marchesín, on the other hand, kept the goal closed after a first-half that, as he sees it, had “a good performance”. In the second-half, Sérgio Oliveira increased the advantage, something that allowed for the Dragons to “stand their ground” towards an “important victory”, in the opinion of the midfielder. Marko Grujic, debuting in the team, highlighted the “great character” of the squad, which had a positive performance against “a good opponent”.

Fábio Vieira
“It was a fantastic feeling. I worked hard for this. I’m very happy for my first goal in the Champions League, but the most important thing was the victory in a very difficult game. I’ve been feeling well, I’ve been working to the top of my capacities. Luckily I scored another goal, I gave everything for the team and these three points were very important. I always work at my maximum. I’ve been having my opportunities and I’ll keep working to deserve them. It was a difficult match, we knew Olympiacos has good players and they played well. It was a well-played match, I managed to score my first goal, it was very special, but I value the result more. It was very important not to lose points at home. After a defeat we couldn’t lose points. We gave a good response, we were worthy of FC Porto from the beginning, we played well, we managed to break their strategy and we are very happy.”

Marchesín
“I am very happy for the victory. We played an excellent match in Manchester, but then things happened that were not normal. Today we had a great first-half and we are happy for the three points that are very important. They have a good team, very strong and aggressive. We knew the second-half was going to be like that and we wanted to hold the ball more. We had an incredible first-half, and in the second-half we lowered our pace a little, but, with the score in our favour, that’s normal. Now we have to think of the championship match, which is going to be complicated, and we have to get three more points there. Then we think of Marseille and we have to take advantage that we play at home again.”

Sérgio Oliveira
“It was very important for us. If we wanted to have a chance at moving on to the next stage, it was crucial. It went well, we won 2-0 at home and that was also important. We gave a good response, we played a good match. In the second-half we were a bit tired, but we still scored. We were able to control the match. You have to be able to defend and position yourself well. We were under pressure, but we managed to not concede. Every minute that went by, we were able to move up, we stood our ground and we managed to score the second goal, and, most importantly, we won.”

Marko Grujic
“I’m very happy for the team, we deserved to win. We played well against a good opponent. We showed great character, because there are no easy matches in the Champions League. I’m happy for the first few minutes in front of our fans. For us, it was very important to win at home after we lost in Manchester. Tonight, we played a good match and we will continue to work to prepare the next ones.”
