Sérgio Oliveira and Mehdi Taremi praised the spirit of the team after the victory in the quarter-finals of the Champions League (1-0)

FC Porto honoured the blue and white in Andalusia. As the only representative in the eight best teams of the Champions League that doesn’t play in the five best leagues, FC Porto beat Chelsea (1-0) in the second leg of the quarter-finals and was only eliminated due to two major mistakes made last week. After the victory as visitor against the English team, Sérgio Oliveira talked of the “many moments” where the national champions were “better than Chelsea”. “I’m a fan of FC Porto and, if I had been watching this from the outside, I would be proud of the team, for the way we looked Chelsea in the eye. Thank you to the fans and I hope they stay with us until the end”, the midfielder stated. Scorer of a fantastic goal, Mehdi Taremi would have preferred to get the qualification: “I’m happy for the goal, but I would be much happier if we had qualified.

Sérgio Oliveira
“It’s frustrating, it’s sad, but that’s football. We have to be proud of our path in this Champions League. Even in this elimination round, we had many moments when we were better than Chelsea. We paid the price for two mistakes, but that’s football and the entire team made those mistakes, not the individual. The Champions League is over for us, but now we have our championship, which is our main goal. Chelsea came here to manage the clock and the score, trying to freeze our high pressure and our intensity. We were two goals behind and wanted to score, but, unfortunately, we only scored near the end. That’s football. I’m a fan of FC Porto and, if I had been watching this from the outside, I would be proud of the team, for the way we looked Chelsea in the eye. Thank you to the fans and I hope they stay with us until the end.”

Mehdi Taremi
“We played a great match, but it wasn’t enough to stay in the Champions League. Anyway, we have to be proud of what we did, but this is football. I am happy for the goal, but I would have been much happier if we had qualified. It was a great opportunity for me to play a great competition like the Champions League.”
