FC Porto beat Vizela (4-0) for matchday 15 and remains in the lead of the championship

The Christmas Eve for the Porto Nation will be at top of the league table. To ensure the lead in the League, FC Porto went to Vizela win 4-0, quietly adding three more points in a stadium that the Dragons had only visited in 2012 before, to face Santa Eulália, for the Portuguese Cup. Luis Díaz (who else?) opened the scoreboard, Otávio followed the good example of the best player in the championship and, in the second-half, Zaidu and Samu, with an own goal, sealed the match, the 10th consecutive victory for the blue and whites in the championship.

With eleven changes in comparison to the team that faced Rio Ave, for the League Cup, and three in comparison to the previous match, against SC Braga, FC Porto went determined to control the match. 12 minutes, a play between Evanilson, Mehdi Taremi (fouled by Koffi) and Luis Díaz wasn’t finished in the best way by the Colombian winger, but the number 7 would redeem himself after a great pass from Otávio, opening opened the scoreboard. Taremi also came close to scoring, first with a shot on the edge of the penalty area, and later in a play where he lost his balance. Before minute 20, Zaidu recovered the ball in the midfield, passed to the Iranian forward, Taremi saw Díaz running and, finally, the winger passed to captain Otávio, for the 2-0. After Bruno Wilson grabbed and pushed Taremi in a dangerous zone, the inevitable Díaz couldn’t overcome the wall. Vizela only showed signs of life in stoppage time, with a strong and placed shot that gave Diogo Costa a great save.

The second-half couldn’t have started better. Two minutes in, Zaidu ran 60 meters with the ball and shot for the third goal of the evening. In the following attack, Diogo Costa rose to occasion once again, this time with the help of the post. In a save worthy of a handball match, with his left leg, the number 99 kept a clean sheet and ended up being hit in the chest by Schettine, sent-off after the confirmation from the VAR. With Fábio Vieira and Corona replacing scorers Otávio – in risk of being banned for a fifth yellow card – and Luis Díaz, Vítor Ferreira took a corner on the left and Samu headed the ball into his own goal, making it 4-0. In the last twenty minutes, Zaidu remained fresh in the match and shot hard, but off target, and Taremi wasted his opportunity for the fifth goal in good position. Until the end, there was still time for Wendell, Sérgio Oliveira and Bruno Costa to replace Zaidu, Matheus Uribe and Vítor Ferreira. Now that this objective is achieved, the focus is on the next match, a classic against Benfica at home, for the Portuguese Cup (Thursday, 20h45).
