Sérgio Conceição asked for a cool head at this end of the season after the victory over Vizela (4-2)

FC Porto beat Vizela (4-2) and is one point away from becoming champion, but, at the end of the match, Sérgio Conceição asked for “feet firmly on the ground, head in place” because “it’s time to focus and remain concentrated”. The coach started by stating that “it is fantastic to see a stadium full of FC Porto people” and congratulated the players, “who played a good match”. After the analysis of the match, the coach explained that “the reinforcements that went in during the match did well” and that “this is an image of our season”. As for next week’s match, which might be decisive to end the fight for the title, Conceição asked for calm and stated that he will “prepare the match at Estádio da Luz to win. Mathematically, nothing is won, we have to do our job”. Finally, on Uribe’s return, he was clear: “I like having the entire squad available to choose the best team”.

Match analysis
“It’s great to see a stadium full of FC Porto fans, many Vizela fans too, which is to be praised, it was a beautiful show. Congratulations to my players, who played a good match. We are approaching the end and, here or there, there is some lack of intelligence for what the match is asking for. In the first 15 minutes, there wasn’t much useful playing time, which I accept and understand. Coming to Estádio do Dragão to play against a team that always puts high pace into the match, I would do the same if I were on the other side, break the pace, but that hurts the show and our team. We scored the first goal in one of the moments we are strong, we started the match well, we scored the second and, from then on, half an hour into the match, we went into a dynamic in possession that I don’t particularly like, when you start to not attack your opponent. In one of those plays, we lost the ball and Vizela scored a great goal. At the end of the season, going into the second-half with a goal conceded could make the team uneasy, but the fans went after what the team wanted, always with some apprehension. I’m always confident and weary, it’s always good, that state of mind is essential for any play to be decisive in the match. I don’t agree with Álvaro when he says we wasted time, we scored the fourth goal on minute 90.”

The reinforcements that went in from the bench
“The reinforcements that went in during the match did well, that’s an image of our season, the group is great in that sense. They understood the message and everyone has the same spirit. Even if it’s only for five minutes, the way Eustaquio went in is important for us to realise that he’s committed and he’s fantastic, he wants to help the team.”

Feet firmly on the ground for such an important match
“We will be looking at match against Benfica, and prepare that match at Estádio da Luz to win. Mathematically, nothing is won, we have to do our job, there are two matches left and the Cup final, so feet firmly on the ground, head in place, it’s time to focus and remain concentrated.”

The privilege of having the full squad
“I like having the entire squad available to choose the best team. Matheus is part of the work group, Marko has been giving a good response, the midfielders and the team are fine, it’s good to have the team available to have more options.”
