Toni Martínez, Marcano and Mehdi Taremi reacted to the victory in the return to Estádio do Dragão (2-1)
FC Porto beat Monaco (2-1) at home, in the match that signalled the return of the fans to Estádio do Dragão for the start of the 2022/23 season. At the end of the match, Toni Martínez stated that “the team did great” in the match that ended “a pre-season with only victories”, just like the club wants: “We always play on the edge, be it a friendly or an official match”. Marcano admitted he is “very happy to return” home after a long stoppage due to injury and shared the idea “of a well-played match”, as his countryman stated. Mehdi Taremi also shares the same opinion, thanked “the fans that attended” and asked for support for next Saturday’s decisive match: “We need them to win the Super Cup”.
Toni Martínez
“I felt well, the team did great against a very strong opponent. We ended the pre-season with only victories and we are very happy for that. We always play on the edge, be it a friendly or an official match. We showed that we are ready for the beginning of the season. We closed a perfect pre-season of wins.”
Marcano
“It’s a feeling of great happiness, I’m very happy to be back. It’s always easy [to play next to Pepe] because he’s a great player, he’s our captain. For now, being healthy is what really matters to me and that the team achieves what it sets out to do. It was a well-played match from us, we were better in the second-half and we’re now going to fight for the Super Cup, which is very important for us.”
Mehdi Taremi
“It was a great match from our team, we worked hard. We are now going to prepare for the Super Cup with a lot of intensity because everything is decided in one match. Today was the first match of the season at Estádio do Dragão, it’s always difficult, we did a great job and we’ll keep in mind the good things we did. First of all, I want to thank the fans that attended and tell them that we need them to win the Super Cup. We have to work hard to be able to win the next match.”
