FC Porto beat Anadia (6-0) for round 3 of the Portuguese Cup
FC Porto started the Portuguese Cup with the right foot and began the defence of the title with a comfortable victory over Anadia, qualifying the Dragons for the round of 32 of a competition they have already won 18 times. With the usual seriousness of the club and the respect for the opponent demanded by Sérgio Conceição, the cup holders never underestimated the team from third division and scored six goals - three in each half - thanks to the goals scored by Danny Namaso, Gabriel Veron, Toni Martínez (two), Fábio Cardoso and Bruno Costa.
Four days after the demanding trip to Leverkusen and five before the classic at Estádio do Dragão, the blue and white coach made eight changes to the starting team that played in Germany and, apart from the debut of Cláudio Ramos in front of goal, he also sent in Rodrigo Conceição, Wendell, Marko Grujic, Bruno Costa, Gabriel Veron, Danny Namaso and Toni Martínez. The last two who were the ones responsible for opening the scoreboard six minutes in, following the good team work playing from the back, with Toni crossing from the right and Namaso heading the ball in.
Immediately after, the Spanish forward combined with Veron and it felt like a big win was coming. The second goal came shortly after, as a result of a good pass from Otávio that flew over the defence and left the number 7 alone to control and finish as he knows so well. The third goal came thirty minutes in, reflecting the superiority of the blue and whites: Veron moved up quickly on the left wing, passed inside the area and Toni Martínez just had to put the ball in the back of the net for the 3-0.
With a yellow card, Rodrigo Conceição didn’t come back for the second-half and allowed the long-awaited return of Wilson Manafá to the team after a serious injury suffered last December. The goals continued with a free kick taken beautifully by Bruno Costa, which allowed Fábio Cardoso to follow the leads of Veron and Namaso, also scoring his first goal for the blue and whites. Winning by four with about 30 minutes to go, Sérgio Conceição sent in Iván Marcano, Bernardo Folha and Gonçalo Borges to replace David Carmo, Otávio and Namaso.
Anadia’s best opportunity came at that time, but ended up hitting the blue and white post. Indifferent to the disadvantage, the home team tried again and only an excellent save by Cláudio Ramos kept a clean sheet. In the last quarter of an hour, Veron felt some physical difficulties and was replaced by Evanilson, but the night belonged to the forward who stayed behind under the autumn rain. 87 minutes in, Bernardo Folha did a long pass to Wendell, the Brazilian fullback put the ball in the area, Toni Martínez jumped above everyone else and scored the fifth goal of the night. The sixth came shortly afterwards, with an assist from youngster Folha and scored by Bruno Costa, closing the scoreboard.
