Uribe, Otávio and André Franco talked about the Final Four after the victory over Gil Vicente for the quarter-finals of the League Cup (2-0)
FC Porto beat Gil Vicente in the quarter-finals of the League Cup (2-0), in a match played at Estádio do Dragão. Matheus Uribe, who won the Merit and Porto Values award, considered that the team took “an important step” to win a competition the team “is determined to win”, an idea shared with Otávio, named MVP by the League, who stated that “the most important thing was the victory”, and that he hopes “this time” the cup ends up in the Dragons’ hands. André Franco, who went in 87 minutes in, stated “it was a fair victory” and that the team “needs to keep working with maximum seriousness”.
Matheus Uribe
“It was a very difficult match, we knew we were going to face a team that has a very mobile attack. Fortunately, we scored early and that helped us. Still, we have to be more consistent on the defence in the full 90 minutes, but it’s better to correct those mistakes with a victory and a qualification to the Final Four. With Marko, I have more freedom to join in the attack and I had more chances to score a goal. I didn’t manage to score, but we have to keep trying, that’s what the coach asks of me. FC Porto always competes to win every competition, we are very determined to win this competition. Today we took an important step and now we will rest and prepare for everything ahead of us. I am very grateful for the award, it is the result of all the team’s work.”
Otávio
“I’m happy with the victory. The most important thing was we win. Now we are in the Final Four and we want to win it. We scored early, but Gil Vicente was very strong and pushed us a lot. We didn’t concede any goals, at half time the coach corrected the team and we did better in the second half. I’m always cherished here, that’s why I give my life for the club. I hope it’s this time [that we win the League Cup], we will fight for that to happen. I came back happy [from the World Cup], I gave my contribution to the national team, unfortunately we didn’t achieve the goal of becoming champions, but now I’m back at work at the club, to give my best to win.”
André Franco
“I think Gil Vicente has an excellent team and we were already expecting difficulties in the match. Fortunately, we managed to get into the match well, scored a goal, controlled the match and could have scored one or two more goals with the chances we had, but their goalkeeper also played well. It was a fair victory. I was asked to win more loose balls, to link the midfield to the attack, not to let Gil Vicente connect their lines and it’s always good to play more minutes and have this trust. I think there are always things to improve and we will continue to work with maximum seriousness. It’s a title we really want to win, we want to bring the cup to the museum and we are going to face Académico de Viseu, who, despite playing in the second league, has a lot of quality and will play with a lot of motivation. We have to face this match as if it were a final.”
