FC Porto beat Sporting (2-0) and won the League Cup, their 83rd official trophy in history

FC Porto won the League Cup after beating Sporting in the final, 2-0, with goals scored by Eustaquio and Marcano. With this trophy, the blue and whites became the club with the most titles in the history of Portuguese football, with 83 official titles. In addition to this milestone, the Dragons hold, for the first time, all national trophies simultaneously and titles for all competitions in which they participated.

For the classic, Sérgio Conceição changed two players in the starting team. Galeno and Taremi went in to replace Veron and Namaso, and the team started the match in a 4-3-3 formation, with Pepê and the Brazilian winger on the wings supporting the Iranian forward.

The Dragons took the initiative on the attack in the first minutes of the final. With more ball possession and organizing from the back, mostly with the purpose of finding space behind the opposing fullbacks, FC Porto was the first to celebrate, ten minutes into the match.

From the right wing, Pepê found space and crossed into the area, where Wendell passed immediately to Eustaquio. The midfielder moved the ball to his right foot and, from there, he took the shot and watched as the ball went between Adán's hands, only stopping in the back of the net. The blue and white fans jumped in celebration.

Two minutes later, Sporting scored through Marcus Edwards, but Tiago Martins (the VAR) warned referee João Pinheiro to disallow the goal, as the player was 41 centimetres offside when Pedro Gonçalves passed the ball. Sporting continued to search for the tie, hitting the bar and the post 35 minutes in, but FC Porto reached the break in the lead (1-0).

In a very tactical second half, with the teams controlling each other and not allowing any goal-scoring opportunities, the most relevant moment came when Paulinho was sent off 70 minutes in, after hitting Otávio in the face with his elbow. The match was turning aggressive and, seven minutes later, Sérgio Conceição made his first substitution, sending in Zaidu to replace Wendell, who already had a yellow card.

Calm about the lead, but eager to add to the scoreboard, the Dragons moved up the opponent's area and Iván Marcano, 86 minutes in, ended any doubt: in a header on the far past, the central defender got to Pepê's cross and sealed the victory, for the first League Cup in the history of the club.
