Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa was clear in the way he criticized the refereeing, after the match FC Porto-Gil Vicente
At the end of the match FC Porto-Gil Vicente, with the referee and the video referee designated for the match in the leading roles, Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa strongly criticised the refereeing of this and last Saturday's match opposing Vizela and Benfica. The chairman was clear in asking: "Be done with the VAR because you can see the VAR acting in some matches, but no VAR in others, and that is going in the wrong direction. If the VAR is there for some and not for others, be done with the VAR because we’re only wasting money and affecting the outcome of the championship".
The chairman went further, addressed the "duality in criteria for yellow cards that ended in the second red to Uribe" and clarified that, unlike others, no one in FC Porto calls "the referees by their first name", calls them "to get things straight or even talks to them". Thus, after a match that the team lost because they "had to lose", Pinto da Costa asked "the Refereeing Board to think of what happened this matchday" and stressed: "We will continue to fight. Maybe we have to focus more on international competitions, but we will try to win this, match after match."
Calling to the truth
"Given the performances of today's VAR and that of VAR António Nobre in the match in Vizela, I make a request: be done with the VAR because you can see the VAR acting in some matches, but no VAR in others, and that is going in the wrong direction. If the VAR is there for some and not for others, be done with the VAR because we’re only wasting money and affecting the outcome of the championship."
Poets and artists
"The audience understood that the players gave it all, 9 against 11 was an almost impossible mission, especially for the duality in showing yellow cards, especially in the red card shown to Uribe, just analyse the plays. The great lesson of this matchday is: be done with the VAR. In the name of the truth, be done with it. If the VAR is there for some and not for others, be done with the VAR. Everybody saw it, the audience understood it. We don’t call the referees by their first name, we don’t call them to get things straight or even talk to them, so I hope that the Refereeing Board thinks of what happened this matchday and of the nominations made, as Mr. António Nobre as VAR, in the last Benfica-Vizela match, influenced the result by signalling a penalty against Vizela and now, in Vizela, he was distracted, he was probably reading the poems of António Nobre."
A defeat that had to happen
"I think everyone realised it and saw that the ovation the fans gave the team in the end was due to realizing that the players lost because they had to lose and that’s all I want to say. I hope the Refereeing Board thinks of what happened this matchday."
Refusing to lower arms
"I asked them to be patient. They feel it in their skin what was done to them, they fought to the fullest and we will keep fighting. Maybe we have to focus more on international competitions, but we will try to win this, match after match."
