FC Porto beat Estoril 3-2 for matchday 24 of the championship

Football is made of constant restarts and only the best can keep the talent and the attitude intact during moments of misfortune and unfairness during a match. Against Estoril, FC Porto took less than five minutes to respond to both goals conceded and got three more important points (now at 57) in the national championship.

Sérgio Conceição changed two players in the starting team, in comparison to the victory in Chaves, sending in Fábio Cardoso and João Mário, but the blue and white momentum at the start of the match remained. With the Dragons assaulting Estoril's goal in the opening moments, Marko Grujic did the first shot. A missile that went outside the post, but that seemed to be a warning for what would follow shortly after.

Before the ten minutes mark, in a corner-kick taken on the right by André Franco, Toni Martínez deflected off the near post and the Serbian midfielder, the usual reference in set pieces, came up on the far post to head the ball into the back of the net (9m).

In a one way match for the blue and whites, Estoril managed to tie in the first shot they made at Estádio do Dragão. After Tiago Gouveia had his shot blocked, a number of rebounds at the edge of the area ended with the ball at his feet again, and the tie was done, even if it didn’t last long (26m).

Less than five minutes later, the fans were again celebrating the lead. Zaidu, moving up on the left wing, crossed, Toni Martínez passed to Namaso and the shot of the number 19 was stopped by the goalkeeper, deflecting it to the post. Faster than the opposing defenders, André Franco was there to beat goalkeeper Dani Figueira. Until the break, referee Gustavo Correia, who showed Grujic a yellow card on his first foul in the match, refused to show Cassiano his second yellow (and red) after he stepped on Eustaquio.

Matheus Uribe went in for the second half, which pretty much started with João Mário going out due to injury (55m). 65 minutes in, again in a rare play for Estoril, the referee signalled a penalty against the Dragons, as Pepe handed the ball, and Francisco Geraldes tied the match again (2-2).

This tie was also short-lived, as FC Porto returned the justice to the scoreboard. Mexer tackled Taremi in the area shortly after the forward went in, in a play created by Galeno, and the referee signalled the penalty. The Iranian forward made it count from the penalty spot and the Dragons made it 3-2 (70m). That was the end of a story written in quick responses from the blue and whites.
