FC Porto beat Vitória de Guimarães in the last matchday of the League (3-0)
FC Porto did what they had to do – beat Vitória de Guimarães and try to score as many goals as possible -, but even that was not enough to renew title of national champions won with a record in points, last season. In the last game of the season, in a pretty much sold out Estádio do Dragão, the Dragons beat Vitória 3-0, reached the 85 points milestone and got three more goals, thanks to Mehdi Taremi (top scorer of the championship), Otávio and Evanilson.
Matheus Uribe and Evanilson replaced Marko Grujic and Toni Martinez in the team and the visitors were reduced to ten early. Händel viciously tackled the Colombian midfielder and Artur Soares Dias didn’t hesitate when showing the red card.
With one more man on the pitch, the blue and whites scored soon after, with the usual scorer: Pepê ran the left wing at full speed, and Mehdi Taremi only had to put the ball in the back of the net.
Evanilson was close to following his partner's example shortly after, Pepê made it 2-0, but the goal was disallowed for offside, but the second would come when Otávio found time and space to put the ball in the far post.
Evanilson's time would come close to half time, with a great pass from Taremi. The match was close to becoming a beating in stoppage time, but the Iranian forward shot straight at goalkeeper Varela and the break came with 3-0 on the scoreboard.
The second half started as the first ended, with Taremi missing the target in good position before the match lost flair. On the hour mark, Evanilson, Galeno and Pepe were replaced by Toni Martínez, Veron and Rodrigo Conceição, Matheus Uribe dropped to central defender and the fourth goal almost came, but Bamba saved Rodrigo’s header on the touchline, in a confusing play.
Until the final whistle of the 2022/23 Portuguese League, Franco replaced Otávio, Danny Namaso went in for Wendell and Vitória created their first goal situation, from a set piece.
