FC Porto won its 19th Portuguese Cup after beating SC Braga at Estádio do Jamor (2-0)
There were 45 minutes of one-way game, but without putting the ball in the back of the net, a goal followed by the sacrifice of playing with one less man on the pitch, but the icing on the cake was the communion between players and fans. FC Porto kept their eyes on the objective despite several setbacks in Jamor and won, as they should, the 19th Portuguese Cup in its history.
Focused on defending the condition of holders of the Portuguese Cup, the Dragons went in applying pressure and pushed SC Braga to their defence. Four minutes in, Eustaquio, just outside the area, put the reflexes of goalkeeper Matheus to the test, and just a few moments later Evanilson did the same.
The lesson was studied well in Olival and corner-kicks always posed a threat to the opponent. On two situations, Matheus Uribe came up alone of the far post, but his aim was off: in the first attempt, the Colombian midfielder headed over the crossbar, in the second he hit the post.
The opponent's first shot came only 37 minutes in and Cláudio Ramos, the designated goalkeeper for the Cup, reminded Ricardo Horta he was there. The most negative moment of the opening stage was Evanilson picking up an injury, leaving the pitch in pain five minutes before half time, replaced by Toni Martínez. With the Spanish forward already on the pitch, Sérgio Conceição called for foul by Al Musrati on Mehdi Taremi in the area.
With no goals after the first 45 minutes, Sérgio Conceição rallied the troops and ordered to keep up the assault on the adversary until the end. It only took seven minutes for the goal to come. 52 minutes in, Otávio beat Al Musrati, passed to Galeno, the number 13 crossed perfectly and counted on a deflection in the far post. It was André Horta who put the ball in his own goal and the Blue Sea in Jamor exploded with joy.
In the lead, FC Porto suffered a severe setback at the hour mark. Wendell was shown the red card after a hard tackle on Victor Gómez and Toni Martínez, with less than half an hour on the pitch, was substituted by Zaidu. The lines were closed, attention was redoubled and that phase that demanded a greater defensive sacrifice ended without the blue and whites allowing any opportunity to the opponent. 79 minutes in, Taremi got past Niakaté and was taken down by the central defender, who was also shown the red card.
Again even in men on the pitch, the second goal would come two minutes later. Zaidu passed deep to Galeno who, faster than his marker, moved up and passed to Otávio. On the far post, the number 25 only had to push the ball in and run to the stands to join the thousands of fans who, euphoric, ran to meet him (2-0). In stoppage time, Galeno hit the crossbar, but the 2-0 remained and FC Porto won the 19th Portuguese Cup in its history.
