Blue and White players talked of the fairness in the victory over Shakhtar Donetsk (3-1)

FC Porto went all out in the Champions League, beating Shakhtar Donetsk (3-1) in Hamburg, Germany, on the first matchday of Group H. After the victory, Galeno, MVP of the night with two goals and an assist, spoke of a “special” game, in which “the team deserves praising”. Also worthy of praise is Diogo Costa, who looks at this victory as "the best possible gift" on his birthday. As for Alan Varela, the midfielder admitted to being “very happy” with his debut in the Champions League.

Diogo Costa
"We got the best result we could, which was a victory. We controlled the game from the start and securing the 2-1 after the goal conceded was important. It's a good result, but it's just one game. We are off to a good start and we want to continue this moment. It's the best possible day: celebrating my birthday and winning. I want to thank all the fans and everyone who wished me a happy birthday. It was the best possible gift."

Alan Varela
"I am very happy with the debut in the Champions League. It was very important to win this game. My team mates welcomed me and everyone treats me very well. This was very important for my adaptation and I am very happy to play for FC Porto. I work every day to show who I am and help the team."

Galeno
"Playing a Champions League game is always a dream come true. This one becomes special because I scored two goals and helped the team go home with the win. That's the most important thing and the team deserves praising. I'm happy for the performance, for the goals and for the victory. We knew it wasn't going to be an easy game, but we studied their team well to get the win. We deserve these three points for everything we've done on the pitch. We always go in to win and are always confident in what we can do. The coach knew how to give us the best strategy and we won."
