Sérgio Conceição analysed the victory in Famalicão (3-0)
FC Porto beat Famalicão 3-0 in matchday 12 of the Portuguese League and, after the match, Sérgio Conceição described the performance of his team "competent" and praised the "merit of the team, as the players realized" what they had to do "to score goals" against a team that "added value to the victory". As he had already done before the match, the coach praised Mehdi Taremi, “a very intelligent player” who “adds work capacity to this intelligence”, before admitting that he “liked” what João Mendes did and was pleased with the “good work” done by the FC Porto B coaching staff.
The competent performance that gave the three points
“I won't say the goal gave confidence because we don't need it. It doesn't matter if it's on minute 90 or at the start. Clearly, as we faced an aggressive opponent, who creates difficulties for opponents at their home, we played a very competent game. It was not a very well-played game, but a competent one on our part, with Famalicão adding value to our victory.”
The merit of the team in overcoming difficulties
“I didn't feel that. We always had our team very compact and, to get that, our defensive line needs to be up, close to the midfield, and the midfield close to the attack. We have complete confidence in our defensive line and in our work. We knew that playing with width and depth depended a lot on the two midfielders. Famalicão is a team with strong and well-trained players. Merit to the team, as the players realized what they had to do to score goals.”
Compliments to Mehdi Taremi
“He’s fully dedicated. Taremi is a very intelligent player and adds work capacity to this intelligence. We lost the ball at one point, Famalicão moved on the counterattack, and Taremi was the one recovering the ball in the area. It doesn't always work, but I’m the one deciding on the best to start the game.”
João Mendes and Jorge Sánchez from the start
“Yes, I've been enjoying their work. João Mendes was an option for our left side, as was Jorge.” I felt João Mário was not at 100% capacity. In the last game, we played a very competent game, but we couldn't win. The B team also does a good job, Folha and his coaching team, and I am pleased with that.”
