Despite the victory in the home match against Leixões (2-1), the blue and whites are out of the League Cup

Despite knowing that they would not qualify to the Final 4 of the League Cup, FC Porto did their job and beat Leixões (2-1), at Estádio do Dragão, in the 3rd matchday of Group D. Sérgio Conceição saw “a serious game from both teams”, namely the one under his command, because the team was playing “for pride” and “for what it means to wear the FC Porto shirt”. “Not everything went well, far from it, but there were positive things. It was an entertaining game”, the coach concluded.

The resume of the game
“Leixões came here to defend and aim at quick counterattacks. We changed a lot of players, but we were expecting that plan. Basically, we did some changes to improve match fitness of some players who, for one reason or another, haven't been playing as much. In these games, facing teams that close in the back, the team needs some routine and changes can sometimes complicate a match, but it was a serious game from both teams and we have to praise the fans who came to Dragão today. FC Porto is not used to playing without something to win, but we always play for pride and for what it means to wear the FC Porto shirt. Not everything went well, far from it, but there were positive things. It was an entertaining game.”

The injuries that are being dealt with
“Considering the number of injuries we have had this season, it is important that players train selflessly and that they are always prepared to compete. The game is one thing and training is another, despite the intensity we put into training. Wendell felt well and in another option, so we're happy with that. These games are also useful for that, but I didn't offer anything to anyone. Those who played, played because they earned it.”

Wishes and dreams
“The gift I wanted the most was not for me, as I am privileged. I have a beautiful family, I do what I enjoy, I am passionate about my job and I am at the club that gave me everything. I want others to have more, not me. Just the other day, I went to the IPO (oncology clinic) and saw some harsh realities, so what I want is for more peace and more solidarity. I wish we had a better world than the one we have.”

Son Moisés Conceição was on the other side
“These are beautiful moments, but we were focused on the game and we know how to handle these situations. At home we are a very tight family.”
