Sérgio Conceição took responsibility for the result in the 21st round of the League (3-2)

FC Porto lost in Arouca, 3-2, and is now seven points behind the leaders of the table Benfica and Sporting, but the Lions have a game in hand. Sérgio Conceição pointed at the “misinterpretations of the coach”, the “lack of judgement” and the “lack of effectiveness” as the causes for the defeat against “a team with good players, which organized itself to make life difficult for FC Porto”. “There was merit in the way they defended and there was little merit for the FC Porto coach in coming up with the proper strategy to win the game”, the coach summed up.

Match analysis
“There was a little bit of everything in the game. Misinterpretations of the coach, lack of judgement, conceding a goal in the first seconds, we tied, between that goal and the penalty, we had two or three clear occasions to score a goal... but the lack of effectiveness should be blamed on the coach who does not understand any of this. In the second half, we should have had a different insight to score in an organized attack, we allowed Arouca to go up with danger while we were somewhat unbalanced. On a situation with Nico, on a spare ball, hitting the goalkeeper was the hardest thing to do, but I have to train more with him and I have a responsibility in that too. The 3-1 was an excellent goal, in a counter-attack by a team with good players that was organized in a way that made FC Porto's life difficult. We tried on the inside, from the wings, we exposed ourselves in a way that is not normal and it is my fault, we were the ones that had to win the game and we had to be aware of the opponents' quick attacks. There was merit in the way Arouca defended and there was little merit for the FC Porto coach in coming up with the proper strategy to win the game.”
