An out of this world FC Porto decimated Benfica (5-0), at home, in matchday 24 of the League

This Sunday, FC Porto beat Benfica (5-0), at Estádio do Dragão, for matchday 24 of the League. Galeno (20m and 44m), Wendell (55m), Pepê (75m) and Danny Namaso (90m) scored the goals of the blue and whites, who are still third in the table, with 52 points, seven behind the leader Sporting, who a game in hand.

With Otavio in the team sent in by Sérgio Conceição, FC Porto went all in for the classic and put on a first half at a very high level, not giving Benfica any chances; the Reds seemed to not even be on the pitch. 11 minutes in, Pepê forced Trubin to a good save, but Galeno came even closer to opening the scoreboard shortly after (14m). If at first you don’t succeed, though, try again.

Following a corner kick taken by Francisco Conceição, the ball was deflected on the near post and Galeno was on the far one, alone, to cause the first celebration of the evening (20m). Always in high rotation, FC Porto continued the assault on the team from Lisbon and the 2-0 was delayed by Trubin, in successive shots from Francisco Conceição (24m) and Pepê (25m).

The first noteworthy play for Benfica came only 34 minutes in, but Diogo Costa easily stopped Rafa's shot. Before João Pinheiro signalled for the break, the blue and whites increased the lead through Galeno. Francisco Conceição dismantled the left side of the opposing defence and crossed to Evanilson, who assisted Galeno for the 2-0 (44m).

The second half not only didn’t change the trend of the game, it also made it more definitive. 10 minutes into the second half, Wendell scored in a great team play of the Dragons and made it 3-0 in the same week he was called up to the Brazilian national team (55m). After Otamendi was sent off for double yellow (61m), FC Porto reached the 4-0 in a counterattack led by Nico González that only ended with Pepê's goal (75m). 90 minutes in, Danny Namaso made it 5-0 and showed an open hand to the blue and white family. And the book is closed on FC Porto's biggest victory in this season of the championship and on another home victory over Benfica.
