Pepe talked for the group and spoke of a disappointing elimination at the hands of Arsenal

It was a great FC Porto playing at the Emirates' pitch, but Arsenal was more fortunate in the penalty shootout and the English team is moving on to the quarter finals of the Champions League. After the second match against the Gunners, Pepe talked of "a great game" for the blue and whites and of the great support from the fans, but admitted the home team was "the lucky winners". As for Jorge Sánchez, the fullback admitted that this outcome beings “mixed feelings”.

Pepe
“First of all, I have to thank our fans, it was amazing what they did here. It's a shame to be eliminated like this, but it's part of football. We created difficulties for Arsenal, we won at home and today they scored on their first shot. I have to congratulate my companions, as they were true Dragons on the pitch and did what the coach asked us to do. In a couple of moments, we could have been more accurate and scored goals. In extra time, we were the only ones shooting for goal. It was a great game from us, but unfortunately we didn't make it through. He missed on penalties, but Arsenal also wanted to take the game to that situation. They are a great team and usually score a lot of goals, but we managed to counter their weapons. The team had a very mature attitude and we knew what we were doing. They were the lucky winners. The solution is to not let the games go into penalties or to try to solve them in the 90 or 120 minutes. If we had been more accurate here or there, we could have scored goals. The spirit of the team was always high and we were always focused on the game. Congratulations to my teammates and thanks to our fans.”

Jorge Sánchez
“There are mixed feelings. We are saddened by the result, but happy for the game we played. We are proud of what we have shown today and at home. We did our job well to try to win today and never aimed at a tie. Regrettably, we didn’t qualify and we are going home sad, but there are still things to win this season. We are sad, but at the same time we are proud of what we have done.”
