Goals scored by Samu (three), Nico González and Rodrigo Mora secured FC Porto's 5-0 win at Vila das Aves
FC Porto finished matchday nine of the Portuguese League with a convincing win, their biggest of the season, against AVS. Returning to Vila das Aves three and a half years later, Porto went into the break winning 4-0 and ended the match at 5-0, thanks to a hat-trick from Samu and goals from Nico González and Rodrigo Mora. The result keeps them chasing the lead, three points behind Sporting and five ahead of Benfica, who have a game in hand.
Fábio Vieira and Danny Namaso replaced Iván Jaime and Galeno in the starting team and the young English international came close to scoring nine minutes in, a shot saved by Ochoa that deflected on a defender's head and on the post before going out for a corner. Pepê also hit the post soon after, following a cross from Martim Fernandes, who also passed to Fábio Vieira for an attempt that narrowly missed the target.
The three warnings in 22 minutes were followed by four goals before the break: the first was scored by Nico González, who headed a perfect ball from Fábio Vieira (1-0); the second was born at Martim's feet, with Samu controlling the ball on his chest and shooting at the back of the net (2-0); the third had the same players, but this time the forward headed the ball in (3-0); the fourth, confirming the perfect hat-trick, had Pepê as assistant and Samu scored with his left foot (4-0).
The second half started with Namaso shooting straight at Ochoa, but the game became less frantic than the first, until Vítor Bruno did three substitutions that brought renewed energy to the three sectors of the team - Nehuen Pérez, Fábio Vieira and Danny Namaso were replaced by Zé Pedro, André Franco and Rodrigo Mora. João Mário replaced Martim Fernandes and Eustáquio did the same with Alan Varela immediately after Samu was near his fourth goal.
Just after going in, two youngsters combined perfectly for the 5-0: fresh as few, João Mário found Rodrigo Mora and the star of the 2007 generation had the luck and the skill needed to score his first goal for the main squad at the age of 17. Next, there’s Moreirense, in Aveiro, for the League Cup (Thursday, 20h45).
