Vítor Bruno praised the “very serious” and “solid” performance his players put on after the 5-0 victory at Aves
“It was a very serious game from a team that wanted to win” and “always looked for more and more”. That’s how Vítor Bruno described his team’s performance in the 5-0 victory over AVS. In search of “perfection” and in “high rotation”, the Dragons never failed to “aim at the opponent’s goal” in a “solid” game that showed the future is clear: “The room for the team to grow is huge”.
Nehuen Pérez was “slightly uncomfortable” and was therefore replaced, Galeno was left out due to a “tactical decision”, Alan Varela is “difficult to tame” and Samu “has to keep challenging himself”, the coach explained, warning the striker that “there are people with a lot of credit ahead of him”.
A great display
“It was a very serious game from a team that wanted to win. Despite taking an early lead, they were always looking for more and more. We had a lot of respect for our opponents, who are very skilled. Now we have to look forward to the next one. This one’s over and we have to look ahead to Thursday.”
Nehuen Pérez’s substitution
“Nehuen Pérez was slightly uncomfortable. We played it safe by having Zé [Pedro] warm up. We left him in for a bit longer in the second half, but he started to feel a bit uncomfortable, nothing that aggravated it, but we felt it was wiser to take him off and send Zé in.”
A team that never lost power
“The message went the other way at half-time, to respect our opponents. Look for perfection, high tempo. We never stopped aiming at the opponent’s goal. With the changes, the team had to adapt, as is natural, but it showed itself, looking for solutions. It was a solid game. There’s plenty of room for the team to grow.”
Galeno’s absence
“Yes, a tactical decision, an option. Nothing to do with management. We felt it was the best way to attack the game, with the players who started. And then, as the game went on, we felt that there were players who also needed to get some minutes on the pitch and who have been adding and who earned it thank to their daily work.”
Samu’s goalscoring prowess
“I’m very happy for him. Now he has to keep challenging himself every day. It doesn’t end here, his story doesn’t end today. He has a lot to do at FC Porto. There are players you have to look at with special care. In the history of FC Porto, there are people with a lot of credit and they’ve given a lot to the club. He still has a long way to go, to leave a strong mark on the club. But I’m very happy with him and with Danny [Namaso], who started alongside him. Also happy with André Franco, Deniz Gül, with those who work with him on a daily basis, because they take him to a higher level for what they offer him in terms of internal competitiveness. And that’s the only thing that can allow him to make history here at the club.”
Alan Varela’s replacement
“Yes, and it wasn’t with Benfica in mind. It was really thinking about the fact that he has three yellows and the game was pretty much over and we could avoid everything we could in terms of yellows. That question was raised in the locker room at half time. Not directly with Alan, so as not to take away from the aggressiveness he has and the way he is aggressive and gives the team that flair. We didn’t want to take that away. Now, all unnecessary fouls were to be avoided, but he’s very professional and honest with the game. He can’t stop being who he is. Sometimes he’s hard to tame.”
