FC Porto tied in Famalicão (1-1) on matchday 13 of the League
“The players did everything to win, and they won, but there are victories in certain pitches that are only worth one point.” Estádio Municipal de Famalicão is one of them. Unlike what happened a week earlier in Arouca, in Benfica's game, the VAR found an alleged foul done by Pepê in the area and called Luís Godinho to watch the footage, who saw the ball hit “his right hand, when in fact the ball hit his left arm, which was close to the body”. Vítor Bruno's statements after the game are revealing, clearly showing “the victory was only worth one point”. With this result, the blue and whites are now up to 31 points, as many as Benfica, with one game in hand, and two points behind Sporting.
The coach sent in Martim Fernandes to replace the injured João Mário and the youngster was one of the men helping with the blue and white domain in the first half. Always looking at the goal defended by goalkeeper Zlobin, the Dragons created danger through a shot from Galeno at the edge of the area (18m) and a header from Pepê that hit the post (23m) before Famalicão came close to Diogo Costa's goal, 28 minutes in.
After Eustáquio recovered the ball on the left, Moura received in the area and again tested the Russian goalkeeper (32m), who dropped the ball, but was still on time to get it out of the reach of Samu, who was coming for the goal. The offensive flow of the blue and whites was putting the home team on alert, but without success, while, on the other side, the effectiveness was total: 44 minutes in, after a quick counter, Fábio Vieira recovered, but the attempt to pass to Samu was caught by Calegari, who pushed to the left, switching wings. The ball reached Rochinha, Diogo Costa was unable to catch it and Aranda took the opportunity to open the scoreboard (1-0).
After 63% of ball possession and eight shots in 45 minutes, the Dragons started the second half on top and Samu put Zlobin's reflexes to the test (49m) before tying the match (52m). After Gil Dias' tackled Galeno, Pepê took the free-kick, the goalkeeper punched forward and FC Porto's number 9 controlled the ball on his chest, aimed at the upper angle and then rushed into the midfield, in a clear sign of the team's ambitions (1-1).
Shortly after, Eustáquio shot for another save from the opposing goalkeeper, and Samu scored again: Rafa Soares crossed, Pepê cleared it, the ball ended in Fábio Vieira, who returned it to the Brazilian winger. The swift counterattack reached Galeno, who passed to Samu for the goal and the celebration reached the arms of the fans, but the video assistant referee Tiago Martins saw an alleged foul of Pepê in the area, when it all started. After checking the footage, Luís Godinho disallowed the goal for Pepê's alleged handball and gave a penalty. Face to face with Óscar Aranda, Diogo Costa did what he does best and kept the tie on the scoreboard.
Rodrigo Mora - who had intensified the warm-up before the match and in the first minutes as Fábia Vieira appeared to be injured – was sent in, quickly joined by Iván Jaime, Alan Varela and Deniz Gül, but the Dragons' attempts were not enough to reach the third goal of the night. 1-1 was the final result in Minho.
