FC Porto lost to Sporting (1-0) in Leiria in the semi-finals
FC Porto lost to Sporting and was eliminated from the League Cup. In Leiria, in the first semi-final of the competition, a single goal scored by Gyökeres led to the defeat of the blue and whites, who will play again on the 15th, for the rest of matchday 17 of the championship against CD Nacional.
With Cláudio Ramos and Nico González from the start, the Dragons started the match applying high pressure, moving up on the pitch and trying to force mistakes and had the first goal opportunity 19 minutes in. Rodrigo Mora received the pass from Martim Fernandes, dribbled St. Juste and passed to Nico, but the shot went outside the post of Franco Israel's goal.
The youngster's talent was made clear again nine minutes later. Between lines, in his natural habitat, Mora received the ball from Samu and aimed for goal, but the ball went out. The first half ended with the captain reminding everyone he was there: after Quenda's shot deflected in André Franco, Cláudio Ramos saved it into a corner and kept the clean sheet before the break (0-0).
Sporting returned for the second half better and scored by Gyökeres (56m). In response to the goal conceded, Vítor Bruno sent in Zaidu and Fábio Vieira, who were joined by João Mário and Iván Jaime. The Spanish winger found Samu in good position, but the shot went over the bar (80m).
Deniz Gül joined the attack 83 minutes in, as the team pushed forward in search of the tie. Otávio shot for goal, but the resistance of the Lions didn't break.
