39-year-old Argentinian coach signs until 2027
This Monday, Martín Anselmi signed a contract valid until 2027 and takes charge of FC Porto for the next two and a half seasons.
The Spanish Luis Pastur and the Argentinian Facundo Oreja (assistant coaches), the Uruguayan Diego Bottaioli (fitness trainer), the Argentinian Darío Herrera and the Portuguese Diogo Almeida (goalkeeper coaches) compose the rest of the new blue and white coaching team.
Martín Anselmi boasts four titles in his curriculum, all won at the helm of Independiente del Valle: an Ecuadorian Cup (2022), an Ecuadorian Super Cup (2023), a South American Cup (2022) and a South American Super Cup (2023), being the second youngest coach to win a continental CONMEBOL title.
He began his career in his native country, at the service of Excursionistas, and still worked at Independiente and Atlanta before starting his solo career in the B team of Universidad Católica. This was followed by his first run at Independiente del Valle, still as an assistant coach, and another at Internacional de Porto Alegre until he definitively established himself as head coach.
He started by leading the Chileans of Unión La Calera, in 2022 returned to Ecuador and became the first coach to win two trophies in the same season for Independiente del Valle - a feat he repeated the following year. He left for Mexico and took Cruz Azul to the championship final, setting a points record for the club.
Six decades after Eladio Vaschetto, Alejandro Scopelli, Francisco Reboredo and Lino Taioli, FC Porto once again has an Argentine coach.
