Martín Anselmi's comments after Farense 0-1 FC Porto

FC Porto returned to victories, as the Dragons beat Farense 1-0 for matchday 22 of the league. In the aftermath of the match, Martín Anselmi dedicated the victory to Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa: “It's a very special victory for FC Porto after what happened yesterday, I wasn't fortunate enough to work with him, but I really wanted to dedicate this victory to him”. “We know that our motto has been to win since 1893, but yesterday we lost someone who, since 1982, has made us win even more”, the Argentinian coach stated, recalling the “most successful president in the history of football”.

Victory with a dedication
“It's a very special victory for FC Porto after what happened yesterday. I wasn't fortunate enough to work with him, but I really wanted to dedicate this victory to him. We know that our motto has been to win since 1893, but yesterday we lost someone who, since 1982, has made us win more and more. We want to dedicate this victory to him and his whole family. And we also wanted to feel this joy because we needed it.”

The President of Presidents
“Many titles and greatness were achieved during the presidency of Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa. He is the president with the most titles in the history of football and he made people know FC Porto. I remember watching FC Porto win the Champions League final in 2004 at my home in Argentina.”

Heavy legs
“There were players with a lot of minutes, no rest and we only had two days to prepare for the game. The fullbacks do a lot of sprinting and kilometres during the game, we felt that Eustáquio and Alan Varela had also played a lot of minutes, so I thought we needed some fresh legs. The substitutes went in very well and we have a squad where anyone can play. Vasco's injury makes me sad, nothing has been confirmed yet, but the images leave me with a bad feeling.”

Streak stopped
“We hadn't won in many games, but, now that we did, that doesn't change anything for me. We have to keep working and improving to get to the level we want.”

Next up is AS Roma
“We're playing in a great stadium, against a great club, but we're confident in our work and we're going to compete for qualification. We'll start working on it tomorrow.”
