FC Porto's main squad paid tribute to Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa by beating SC Farense 1-0 on matchday 22 of the Portuguese league. Francisco Moura scored the goal that made FC Porto reach 46 points.
The laying of a wreath by the home team's captain and a minute of silence in memory of Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa were followed by loud chants for the President of the Presidents. As for the game, there weren't many highlights in a first half in which, with six new faces in the starting team. FC Porto had the greater attacking initiative, but the most dangerous play came just before the break: 45 minutes in, Pepê crossed to the far post, where Francisco Moura assisted Fábio Vieira and the number 10 shot close to the top bar.
The Dragons only needed three minutes to open the scoreboard after the break. In a free kick taken by Fábio Vieira, Francisco Moura headed the ball into the back of the net. Nehuén Pérez picked up a yellow card that bans him from facing Vitória SC and tested goalkeeper Ricardo Velho before João Mário, Stephen Eustáquio and Samu were sent in to replace Danny Namaso, André Franco and Deniz Gül.
With 20 minutes to go, Fábio Vieira and Rodrigo Mora were very close to scoring when the left winger shot from the edge of the area and hit the post and, on the spare ball, Mora shot over the bar before being replaced by Alan Varela. A great save from Diogo Costa in the final minutes kept the goal shut before Vasco Sousa, sent in to replace Pepê, suffered a vicious tackle from Zé Carlos - that earned him a direct red card - and forced him off, injured. The scoreboard at the Estádio do Algarve didn't change again until referee Tiago Martins signalled the end of the match.
