Martín Anselm's comments after FC Porto 2-0 AFS
FC Porto returned to victories with a 2-0 home win over AFS and remains third in the league table, with the same points as SC Braga (53). In Martín Anselmi's view, “this was the most complete game” since his arrival at the club, as the group was able to “prolong their own football for much longer on the pitch, always thinking about the opposition goal and with the necessary calm to find the lead”. “I have to emphasise the courage of the players, who always want to be better and today they succeeded”, the coach stated.
The Martín Anselmi era
“It was our best performance, we managed to keep playing for much longer on the pitch, always thinking about the opponent's goal and with the necessary calm to find advantages when attacking. In the second half, with one more man on the pitch, we continued to create goals, so it was our most complete game.”
A complicated romance
“I said that the fans were the hardest girlfriend, we haven't won them over yet, but we'll keep working on it.”
Eustáquio in the back
“It's that versatility that we're looking for, building with two or three at the back. I'll leave it to you to analyse, because if I start giving away clues, the opposition will realise our strategy. You can see what we tried to do with Eustáquio and against 10 there was no need to keep that system because they were a man down.”
The necessary calm
“We needed to be calm to attack and we set out to do that. We attacked together not only to attack better, but to be close to the ball if we lost it. We were calm enough not to get desperate and we knew how to play with the result. We were able to defend with the ball and that showed our calmness. I have to emphasise the courage of the players, who always want to be better and today they succeeded.”
Pepê and Mora in the team
“We learnt yesterday that they were fit. We did the necessary tests and everything was fine. We still had an MRI scan to make sure the injury had healed, but there's always something. This shows their courage and their desire to play, they know that the team is above all else.”
Samu's sadness
“He'll have the joy of representing his country in the national team. He didn't score today, but he played his best game since I arrived here. He was very complete when it came to recovering, playing, generous with his team mates, drawing a lot of fouls and cards for the opposition. As long as we have this Samu, the goals will come.”
