Martín Anselmi's comments after the match FC Porto 2-1 Famalicão

FC Porto beat Famalicão on matchday 30 of the league (2-1) and moved up to third place in the table. Proud of a team “that doesn't give up, is brave” and showed “character and competitiveness”, Martín Anselmi guaranteed that “the courage of the players allowed the game to be controlled”. “The result is temporal, we'll keep working regardless”, explained a coach that is certain that “this is the way forward”.

On the right track
“We showed the character and competitiveness of this team. The players aren't complacent and they're brave. It's not enough to react to a loss, press and run, you also have to show the will to play and every week they've been playing more. That courage has allowed us to control the game and defend well with the ball. I believe this is the way forward.”

Strength in unity
“We can't control every moment of the game, but if we're on top and have a good structure to attack, then we'll end up finding advantages together. We don't do it just for fun or because we want to play beautifully, but because we always want to be united and overcome together those moments of losing the ball.”

Focus on work
“The result is temporal. We'll keep working regardless.”

Mora's performance
“Enjoy watching him.”

Trust in the process
“Winning is the consequence of hard work. We're a team that tries to improve and build something that will lead us to win every week. I like winning like that. Despite the goal we conceded, I think the team was intense, aggressive, reacted well to the loss, knew how to press at the right times and defended compactly. That's a team. When I see the group united in a victory, that's my greatest reward as a coach. We control our team, but we can't control the others.”

Praise for the opposition
“I want to praise Famalicão's work, they play very well and have come from three consecutive wins. They play well without the ball and, when they have it, they play with width, they pass it well and with judgement. It's a rival that forces you to go to the limit. Today we got our reward.”

The hero of the afternoon
“If at 17 he couldn't do more... He still has a lot to do and learn. I think he's on the right track and has undoubted talent, but he also has ten team mates who make sure the ball gets to him. He's got a 38-year-old team-mate who wins every duel and runs like he's 17. I can't help but emphasise Rodrigo's talent, but I can't ignore the work of the other players either.”

Everyone counts
“All the players are equally important. We need all of them to make things happen. If there wasn't Pepê's depth, the ball wouldn't reach Mora. Then Francisco finds Rodrigo because he works so hard. It's not easy being a fullback and running the wing on your own and I want to highlight that pass. The two fullbacks are very important in our pressing. We started with five in the defence, but we're never five, sometimes we're just three or four.”

Marcano's future
“If it was up to me, he'd renew, but it's up to him to decide what he wants to do with his career.”
