Martín Anselmi talked after Boavista 1-2 FC Porto

FC Porto beat Boavista at Estádio do Bessa, 2-1, and is alone in the third place of Liga Portugal. "Delighted with the setting experienced in the derby", Martín Anselmi admitted that he "had not witnessed such an environment in a football stadium for a long time" and, in the aftermath of "one of the best games" since arriving at Porto, praised "the attitude, competitiveness and commitment of the players", setting an objective for the last matchday: "It does not matter if we have already reached the podium, we are FC Porto and we must always win".

The first derby
“I want to highlight the environment we live in today. I hadn't seen such an environment in a football stadium in a long time. I am delighted with the setting experienced in this derby, it was spectacular. During the first half they made practically no shots on goal and managed to reduce through a penalty, which I understand why it was given, but I think the regulation should be revised in these cases. There has to be common sense. We are being harmed because of a ball that was going the other way and returned to our area. After that we did not do well in the transitions, sometimes it is difficult to get to the other side, there is a lot of anxiety, but I praise the attitude, competitiveness and dedication of the players. It was one of the best games since I arrived.”

Unusual penalty
“It was a reflection of the season.”

Tremendous goal by Mora
“He's a kid who listens to coaches a lot during the week and is very humble. It's not easy to do what he does at his age and continue to be humble. We all know how this industry works and how it fills our ego when things go well, but players have to be prepared for the eventuality of life changing overnight. At any moment they become idols, they can be called to the national squad and they need to know how to manage emotions in these situations. Despite being very young, Rodrigo is managing very well. I do not see major changes in his attitude, he is always prepared to train and continues to listen and run. There was a moment when I felt that Pepê could also add that and I thought he deserved to come in and have the opportunity to find his moment, because he also trains and runs a lot. But going back to Rodrigo, he has to continue like this, he has already arrived here and if he continues like this he will go even further."

Only victory matters
“We have to win the last game. It doesn't matter if we've already practically reached the podium. We are FC Porto and we have to win. I want to win every time.”

The ideal start
“At first, I really enjoyed the way the team was playing, how it flowed to attack, how it reacted to losing the ball and pressed each play. I got the idea that during the first 30 minutes we made the most complete game since I arrived. The team was doing everything we asked for: it had patience, attitude, depth and a pace that I appreciate.”

Final stretch
“It was a spectacular weekend because we won and because the team played well. I'm not interested in winning and playing badly. We played a good game and deserved the win. We controlled what there was to control, we attacked, pressed and defended always together, but we still have to win the next game. We have this mentality of always going for the three points. We want to finish this difficult season at home, alongside our fans, and with a win. I want to praise their support today, the setting was spectacular. I enjoyed it a lot.”

United locker room
“We like to play together, and for that to happen, we have to be close. This way we will attack better and we will be able to react better to the loss, because this way we have more players in that zone. What was seen today is the result of our work and the courage of these players who always try to be better and give everything in training. In the end, these details are assets for the coaches and are a prize for working. As a coaching team, we defend this method. It is not easy to change the mentality of a group that did not put this into practice before, it requires a lot of work and focus from the players, but I am happy to see that we had the courage to continue to insist on this method, even after it did not turn out as we wanted in other games. If we keep pushing and working, we see the results in the end.”
