Martín Anselmi's talked after the FC Porto 4-4 Al Ahly

FC Porto said goodbye to the Club World Cup with a tie against Al Ahly (4-4) and Martín Anselmi was “sad to not to have gone through to the Round of 16”, but stressed that “the players tried everything until the end and had a competitive spirit”. In the aftermath of a “season that didn't go well”, the Argentinian coach emphasised the importance of “taking advantage of the market to put together a good squad and correct some mistakes to attack next season”.

Until the last minute
“The players tried everything until the end. We had that competitive spirit. You could see how the players finished on the pitch. I'm sad we didn't get through to the Round of 16, but we competed until the end.”

Qualification at stake
“There was no lack of attitude. The team fought with all they had until the end and went for the win. The result was important and it wasn't what we wanted. We knew how the other game was going and we really wanted to win.”

The goals conceded
“If there’s a transition, it means we lost the ball. That's what happened with three of their goals: we lost the ball and they scored. I get the feeling that we gave them those goals.”

Analysis of 2024/25
“This season didn't go well. We didn't achieve any of FC Porto's goals. We have to take advantage of the market to put together a good squad and correct some mistakes so we can attack next season.”

Changes needed
“We've been analysing. We've analysed, pointed out and talked, but we haven't yet had the chance to stop and make some changes. This isn't the time to list them, but we know what they are and we want to put them into practice.”
