FC Porto beat FC Twente (2-1) on their return to Estádio do Dragão
The first match that was open to the audience of the 2025/26 season ended with a victory for FC Porto at Estádio do Dragão (2-1). Returning home after more than two months away, the dragons recovered from a 1-0 disadvantage to beat FC Twente on the eve of their match against Atlético Madrid, for the 2025-2026 presentation match (August 3, 19h00).
Sitting on the home bench for the first time, Francesco Farioli started with Diogo Costa, Martim Fernandes, Nehuén Pérez, Dominik Prpić, Zaidu, Alan Varela, Victor Froholdt, Gabri Veiga, Pepê, Borja Sainz and Samu, but the left post of the south goal was the only thing preventing an own goal by the blue and whites in the ninth minute.
New signings Prpić, Froholdt, and Sainz were already thrilling the stands when, after the Danish midfielder recovered the ball high up the pitch, Pepê came close to opening the scoreboard. Gabri Veiga, also making his debut at Estádio do Dragão, hit the crossbar 40 minutes in and was sent off in the 42nd, along with Naci Ünüvar, at a time when the high temperatures were also felt on the pitch.
The same ten players returned from the break, but wearing different kits, the third, and the visitors took the lead through Mitchell van Bergen, who shot an unstoppable missile past Diogo Costa (0-1). With Eustáquio, Rodrigo Mora and William Gomes replacing Forholdt, Pepê and Sainz, the Brazilian cut in from the right, hit the crossbar with a long-range shot and Samu made it count in the rebound (1-1).
Alberto Costa made his debut when he replaced Martim Fernandes, Deniz Gül, João Moreira and Vasco Sousa did the same to Samu, Zaidu and Varela, William created danger again in the 83rd minute and was tackled inside the opponent's area in the 89th minute. Called to the penalty spot, the number 7 didn’t hesitate and shot into the back of the Dutch net (2-1).
