FC Porto beat CD Nacional (1-0) and took sole possession of first place in the league

FC Porto defeated CD Nacional (1-0) at home and is alone in the first place in the league with 15 points - three more than Moreirense and Sporting, five ahead of Benfica (one match in hand) and FC Famalicão. Returning to Estádio do Dragão three weeks later, Samu scored his third goal in the League and helped the team maintain its perfect record in the competition: five games, five wins, 12 goals scored and one conceded.

Without the injured Martim Fernandes, Alberto Costa, William Gomes, and Luuk de Jong, Francesco Farioli promoted Jakub Kiwior to his debut and bet on Pablo Rosario, Pepê, and Samu from the start to replace the latter three - all starters at Alvalade - and, right at the start, Borja Sainz saw his 1-0 goal disallowed for offside.

Five minutes later, 11 minutes in, the Dragons were already completely settled in the opponent's midfield and Rodrigo Mora came close to opening the scoreboard with a curling shot that went just over the bar. After the stands protested a foul by Zé Vítor on Samu inside the opposition's area, Borja was fouled by João Aurélio in the same spot and Luís Godinho awarded a penalty after being alerted by VAR.

Called to the penalty spot, Samu didn't flinch and scored a classic penalty: the ball went one way and the goalkeeper the other (1-0). The only shot on goal for the team from Madeira in the first half came 45 minutes in and was saved by Diogo Costa without much difficulty. Farioli made no changes at half time, but made some shortly afterwards, sending in Nehuén Pérez, Zaidu and Gabri Veiga to replace Alan Varela, Francisco Moura and Rodrigo Mora.

The Argentinian international defender went in and was replaced shortly afterwards with an injury, and it was with Eustáquio on the pitch that, following a counter-attack from one end to the other, Pepê missed the target when he had only the goalkeeper to beat. In the final stretch, Zaidu drove forward, Eustáquio opened up the play, Pepê dribbled and Lucas França kept the score unchanged with a last-ditch save.

Determined to score a second, the Dragons never took their foot off the gas - as demonstrated by Deniz Gül, who made a dazzling run and set up Gabri Veiga for a 2-0 lead, but the Spaniard's finish was more placement than power. Before the final whistle, there was still time for Borja Sainz to send another warning, a long-range shot that grazed the post.
