Gabri Veiga was voted MVP of the Portuguese League in Rio Ave 0-3 FC Porto
FC Porto beat Rio Ave 3-0 away, with one goal and two assists from Gabri Veiga, who was voted man of the match. In the aftermath, the Spanish midfielder said he was “happy with the team’s work”, which managed to “neutralise the opponent’s qualities on the counterattack and played a good game” and took the opportunity to dedicate “the victory to the warrior Nehuén Pérez” and “to all the blue and white fans” who were present in Vila do Conde.
A victory with a dedication
“We came here knowing that this was a very difficult ground and one where we have struggled to win in recent years, but we did very well in the game. We give great importance to goals from set pieces because they can decide games, and that's what happened today. We are happy with the team, and the most important thing is that we can dedicate this victory to our warrior Nehuén Pérez. I hope we can maintain this attitude, for him and for all the fans who are here with us.”
Extra caution
“We have to be careful. After scoring two goals, we sometimes sat back too much and weren't strong enough in defence. We still have a lot to improve in terms of our shape and some defensive actions, but things have been going well. We're getting the wins and that's the most important thing. The other team also plays, and we knew about Rio Ave's qualities on the counterattack, but we managed to neutralise them very well and played a good game.”
Farioli's football
“I'm really enjoying the new system, not just me, but the whole team. We are a family, as many of my teammates have already said. We fight for each other, and I think that's the most important thing in a team. We are enjoying ourselves, playing well, but we still have a lot of room for improvement. We have to keep our feet on the ground and take the championship one game at a time.”
The visit to the Museum
“When I signed, before we went to the Club World Cup, I was lucky enough to take a more detailed tour of the Museum. It's incredible to get to know this side of the Club, with so much history, two Champions Leagues and several Leagues. It's very beautiful to see and it's important that all the new signings realise that we are at a great Club and that we will always have to do more than the others to win.”
