FC Porto beat Red Star with a goal from Rodrigo Mora in the 89th minute (2-1)

In Portugal or in Europe, FC Porto remains fully victorious. In the third of four games in eleven days, the second of an overly busy week, Porto beat Red Star 2-1 at home with a revamped starting eleven and a goal scored 89 minutes in that made Estádio do Dragão jump in excitement. Having achieved their ninth victory in nine official games, the Portuguese league leaders now have six points and lead the Europa League alongside six other teams.

72 hours after playing for 45 minutes with one man down, Francesco Farioli started Dominik Prpic, Zaidu, Pablo Rosario, Eustáquio, Rodrigo Mora, Ángel Alarcón, William Gomes, and Deniz Gül, with the latter two quickly dismantling the opposing defence. Seven minutes in, William found Gül, and the Turkish international's excellent move was only stopped by a foul inside the area.

Called to the penalty spot, the Brazilian winger didn’t hesitate and took the classic penalty: shot to one side and goalkeeper to the other (1-0). Eager to follow up on the goal he scored in Arouca, Deniz Gül kept his eyes on the opponent's goal and remained committed to his defensive duties - as he demonstrated after a quarter of an hour, when he recovered the ball high up the field and shot from distance, forcing Matheus into a tight save.

The eight-times Serbian champions' first attack came shortly after and, although it did not cause alarm, it was a sign of things to come 32 minutes in. Following a free kick on the right wing, the ball fell to Kostov and the away team's number 22 tied the match again (1-1). Having just conceded the first goal scored by an opponent, FC Porto went on the attack against Red Star and Rodrigo Mora came close to scoring a memorable goal just before half-time.

The second half started with Alberto Costa and Victor Froholdt replacing Martim Fernandes and Jan Bednarek - the only field players that started the previous match - and with William testing the reflexes of his countryman in the visitors’ goal once again. The blue and white number 7 was again involved in an even more dangerous play shortly afterwards, but the ball took the opposite curve that he intended, and Arnautovic was also unable to find the target at the opposite end of the pitch.

Borja Sainz and Pepê replaced Alarcón and William, and the Spanish winger who had just gone in took advantage of the space behind the Balkan defence to assist Mora, but Matheus saved the 18-year-old's shot. Francesco Farioli used up his substitutions and replaced Deniz Gül with Gabri Veiga, the man who started the moment of the night.

With just seconds remaining in regular time, at the start of a counterattack that would bring the stands of Estádio do Dragão to their feet, the Spanish midfielder found Pepê, the Brazilian international winger sprinted into the Red Star area and only had to tap the ball to the side, where Rodrigo Mora appeared to make it 2-1 and secure the three points for a team that would never be satisfied with just one. On Sunday, there is a classic match against Benfica (21h15, Sport TV).
