Bednarek believes FC Porto had “opportunities to score and win” against Benfica (0-0)
In their 10th game, Francesco Farioli's FC Porto failed to win for the first time. This Sunday, the blue and whites tied against Benfica (0-0) at Estádio do Dragão in the classic match that closed matchday 8 of the League, but they remain the sole leaders with a three-point advantage over Sporting and four over tonight's opponent. After the match, Bednarek spoke of a rival who came to Porto “to survive” and who limited themselves to “defending and trying to counterattack”, but it should be noted that “we kept a clean sheet and maintained our lead in the championship”. “We have to focus on ourselves, because we had chances to score and win this game”, the Polish international centre-back stated.
Benfica playing for the tie
“They came to survive, they just wanted to defend and they constantly wasted time. For most of the game, we played well and we weren't lucky, we deserved more, but that's part of football and there are positive things we can take away, such as keeping a clean sheet and maintaining our lead in the league.”
We lacked definition and finishing
“I think we lacked the final pass, but we had our chances and that's part of the game. I don't think they cancelled us out or did anything special, they just defended and tried to counter-attack, but we have to respect that. I think they came to hold on to the tie, but that's how they wanted to play. We tried to get around that and had our chances to score, but we couldn't win. We have to keep working."
José Mourinho sitting on the other bench
“You could already see his influence in previous games, but we are professionals and we have to be prepared for anything. He is a great manager, he has won many titles and he knows how to prepare for these games, but we have to focus on ourselves because we had chances to score and win this game.”
