FC Porto beat Celoricense 4-0 in the third round of the Portuguese Cup

In their debut in this edition of the Portuguese Cup, FC Porto lived up to their favouritism and beat Celoricense 4-0, with a goal from Jan Bednarek (8m) and a hat-trick from Samu scored in just ten minutes (62m, 70m and 72m). The blue and whites - who will now return to Olival with their focus on the trip to Nottingham (Thursday, 20h00) - already know that they will face Rio Ave or Sintrense in the fourth round, scheduled for the weekend of 22 and 23 November.

Francesco Farioli had made it clear that he was going into the game “with the best available” and made only two changes to the starting eleven that had lined up in the classic against Benfica. Cláudio Ramos, already announced as a starter, was joined by Deniz Gül, who saw Borja Sainz give the first warning in the second minute with a mid-height shot at the edge of the area, and Bednarek replicating what Froholdt had already done at that stadium this season: from a corner, Gabri Veiga crossed with accuracy and, in the six-yard box, the Polish central defender jumped above everyone else and headed into the back of the net with the help of the far post (1-0, 8m).

Dominating across the pitch, the Dragons once again created danger following a set piece, this time taken short and finished by Alberto, who appeared in the box and responded to Borja's pass with a shot that went outside the post (27m). The narrow margin remained unchanged as the teams headed into the dressing rooms.

After the break, with Prpić replacing Kiwior, chances to score piled up in the early minutes of the second half. First, Francisco Moura, sent deep, forced Gonçalo Machado to a good save into a corner; from the set piece, Gabri Veiga put it to the near post and Alan Varela hit the crossbar with a thunderous shot (50m).

With half an hour to play, Rodrigo Mora, William Gomes and Samu replaced Borja Sainz, Gabri Veiga and Deniz Gül, and the game took on a new direction. In just ten minutes, the Spanish international striker scored a hat-trick and sealed the victory: in his first move after stepping onto the pitch, he beat his direct opponent and fired into the net (2-0, 62m); in the 70th minute, he appeared at the far post to simply put the ball in when Bednarek shot after a corner taken by Mora (3-0); and, less than two minutes later, he escaped his marker to tap in a low cross from William Gomes (4-0).

Eustáquio replaced Froholdt, Rodrigo Mora came close to scoring another spectacular goal that would have sealed the deal, but four goals remain in the history books as the team advances to the fourth round of the Portuguese Cup, which will be played at Estádio do Dragão.
