Francesco Farioli regretted “the moment of distraction” that led to FC Utrecht's goal (1-1)
FC Porto deserved more, but left the Netherlands with only one point after drawing with FC Utrecht (1-1) in the fourth matchday of the Europa League group stage, in which they now have seven points. Recalling the “three or four clear chances to score” that the Dragons had in the first half, Francesco Farioli believes that “the moment of distraction” that led to the Dutch goal “cannot happen” and that “you pay dearly at this level”. “In the last few minutes we gave everything, but we weren't patient enough to attack in the best way”, the Italian coach concluded.
A summary of the game
“In the first half, we had three or four clear chances to score and conceded a goal against the trend of the match from a set piece that we had analysed in the morning. It was a moment of lack of concentration that cannot happen, and it affected the dynamics of the game, although we reacted well. In the final minutes, we gave it our all, but we weren't patient enough to attack in the best way possible, so of course this result is bitter. We've played three away games, we have seven points, and we have to continue on our path.”
The goal conceded
“We trained and so did they, we knew they were going to try that move. It was a moment of lack of concentration that makes you pay dearly at this level.”
Changes to the starting eleven
“All players are equally exposed to our dynamics, and the truth is that we played very well in the first half. There were many good things, but we lacked finishing in some plays. We set up the starting eleven to win the game.”
Three home games in the last four matchdays
“We’re taking it step by step, but of course playing at home is important. We’ll face difficulties and we have to be well prepared, but it’s very important to be back playing at home.”
