FC Porto beat SU Sintrense 3-0 in the fourth round of the Portuguese Cup
FC Porto confirmed their place in the Round of 16 of the Portuguese Cup with a 3-0 home win over SU Sintrense. Back at Estádio do Dragão after 20 days and a break for international fixtures, the Dragons lived up to their status as favourites and beat their fourth-tier opponents with a goal from Borja Sainz, another from Deniz Gül and a work of art from Rodrigo Mora.
Francesco Farioli promoted Cláudio Ramos, Martim Fernandes, Pablo Rosario, Dominik Prpic, Eustáquio, Gabri Veiga and Borja Sainz to the starting line-up, but it was Francisco Moura, one of the returning players, who gave the first warning in the fourth minute with a long-range shot from outside the area that went slightly wide.
In the 14th minute, Gabri Veiga attempted an Olympic corner and forced the visiting goalkeeper to work hard to keep the tie; in the 22nd minute, Samu took a defender out of the way and shot with power (but off target); in the 23rd minute, Borja drove forward, released the ball, and Pepê hit an opponent; in the 25th minute, after another corner from Gabri and a first attempt by Pablo Rosario, Borja took advantage of the rebound and opened the scoreboard (1-0).
After a first half dominated by the blue and whites, as demonstrated by the number of shots by each team at half time (14-0), Francesco Farioli brought on Alberto Costa and Deniz Gül to replace Francisco Moura and Samu, and Sintrense had their first shot on goal in the 59th minute, but Cláudio Ramos remained a mere attentive spectator. With Rodrigo Mora and William Gomes replacing Pepê and Borja Sainz, the siege on the visitors' goal intensified and Alan Varela tested goalkeeper Rodrigo Santos' reflexes, who deflected the ball forward and Deniz Gül made no mistake with the rebound (2-0).
The moment of the night came after Luuk de Jong, who had been out due to injury since early September, came on, following attempts by Martim Fernandes and Eustáquio. The clock at Estádio do Dragão showed 80 minutes when Rodrigo Mora received the ball, turned and placed it in the far top corner with a shot from his left foot that deserves to be seen and seen again.
The 18-year-old prodigy came close to scoring again shortly afterwards, Eustáquio was inches away from scoring, and Mora saw a defender deny him a second goal with a timely clearance in front of goal. Referee Hélder Malheiro signalled the end of a one-sided game on the eve of another European matchday (Thursday, 17h45).
