FC Porto beat FC Famalicão (4-1) and will face Benfica in the next round of the competition

A Classic is scheduled for the third week of January at Estádio do Dragão. FC Porto beat FC Famalicão (4-1) with goals from William Gomes, Victor Froholdt, Samu and Pepê and will face Benfica between 11 and 15 January in the Quarter-finals of the Portuguese Cup.

Francesco Farioli made six changes to the starting eleven, bringing in Martim Fernandes, Dominik Prpić, Pablo Rosario, Gabri Veiga, William Gomes and Deniz Gül, and it didn't take long to reap the rewards of that decision: with only six minutes gone and after William Gomes had already tested Zlobin for the first time with his signature shot, Victor Froholdt pressed Mathias de Amorim, who slipped at the edge of the area and left the Brazilian winger in good position to, in a second one-on-one with the keeper, place the ball near the far post and celebrate the 1-0.

Looking for the equaliser, FC Famalicão managed to cancel out the disadvantage in a set piece, with a header from Justin De Haas that touched Diogo Costa's right glove before going in (1-1). Back to the pace of the opening minutes, the Danish player of the year started and finished the second goal of the night for the blue and whites (38m): Froholdt recovered the ball near the opponent's area, Gabri Veiga and Deniz Gül combined for a strong shot from the Galician midfielder, and on the rebound, the omnipresent Nordic player struck the ball hard and sent it into the far top corner (2-1).

In the final moments of the opening half, Mathias de Amorim brought down Pepê inside the area, António Nobre signalled the foul outside the box and, even after Manuel Oliveira's VAR review, the Leiria referee upheld his decision. Gabri Veiga took the free kick that should have been a penalty and shot hard, but Zlobin was there to save it, while the feeling of injustice lingered beyond the order to return to the dressing rooms.

Rodrigo Mora and Samu came on to replace Gabri Veiga and Deniz Gül shortly before the hour mark and, with Borja Sainz and Alberto Costa already on, replacing William Gomes and Francisco Moura, the pair practically sealed the qualification to the quarter-finals. The creative youngster struck the ball meticulously towards the near post and, after a deflection by the opposing defence, the striker appeared at the far post and headed the ball into the back of the net (3-1).

With Jakub Kiwior already on the pitch, replacing Martim Fernandes, there was another celebration by the thousands present at Estádio do Dragão: Mora crossed from the left, Samu headed the ball towards Zlobin, and Pepê tapped it in for 4-1 in the 88th minute. The final whistle signalled the end of the match shortly after.
