FC Porto won in Guimarães (1-0) and remained alone at the top of the league

FC Porto beat Vitória SC in Guimarães (1-0) and remains alone at the top of the Portuguese League, now with 52 points. Alan Varela, in the 85th minute, put some ice on a painful game and allowed the blue and whites to reach ten consecutive wins in the championship.

Francesco Farioli made two changes to the starting eleven that had lined up in the classic - Alberto Costa came in on the right side of the defence and Alan Varela replaced Pablo Rosario, banned, in the deepest midfield position - and saw the team resiliently defend against an aggressive start from the team that had just won the League Cup.

Even so, the best scoring opportunity of the opening half belonged to Samu, from the penalty spot. Alberto was brought down by Lebedenko in the area, João Gonçalves pointed to the penalty spot, and the striker hit the crossbar with a thunderous shot with the Vitória goalkeeper already beaten (26m). In the last five minutes of the first half, Pepê also came close to scoring, but Camara cleared the ball off the line and Martim Fernandes was subsequently flagged for offside during the play.

Returning to the pitch with the score at 0-0, the Dragons took control of the game and Gabri Veiga, already inside the area, created danger in the 53rd minute, before being replaced by Rodrigo Mora - Pepê was also replaced by William Gomes -, Alan Varela put goalkeeper Castillo to the test (62m) and Diogo Costa, a human wall, blocked Lebedenko's path to goal (67m).

Alan Varela isolated Borja Sainz shortly after, and the Spanish winger hit the post. Rodrigo Mora saw his shot go very close to the goal (72m), and Oskar Pietuszewski made his debut in the 75th minute. The young Polish winger, who came on at the same time as Deniz Gül, received the ball with his left thigh, entered the area, and was brought down by Telmo Arcanjo, who had already been booked, in the 80th minute. Tiago Martins advised João Gonçalves to have a look at the footage, the referee awarded a penalty, and Varela showed total composure and class to beat Castillo and place the ball next to the post.

Bednarek came on in exchange for Alberto Costa, Pietuszewski once again beat Arcanjo, but was brought down and the defender ended with a red card. The 1-0 remained until the referee's final whistle, and the blue and white fans, who filled the visiting section of D. Afonso Henriques, continued the celebrations past bed time.
