FC Porto beat Rangers FC (3-1) and finished the league stage in fifth place

FC Porto beat Rangers FC (3-1), finished the league stage in fifth place, and qualified directly for the Round of 16 of the Europa League. With their second home win of the week, thanks to goals from Rodrigo Mora and Francisco Moura and an own goal by Emmanuel Fernandez in the first half, the Dragons secured their status as top seeds and will play the second leg in Porto.

Francesco Farioli made five changes to the starting eleven that had lined up against Gil Vicente (3-0), putting Alberto Costa, Francisco Moura, Alan Varela, Rodrigo Mora, and William Gomes on the field and seeing two of the new additions become the main protagonists of the first half.

Before that, in the sixth minute, the Scots took the lead through Djeidi Gassama, but the blue and whites immediately took control and, in the 27th minute, after getting past his direct opponent with an exquisite control of the ball, Rodrigo Mora took advantage of a poor clearance to control the ball inside the area and tap in the equalizer (1-1).

The turnaround was not long in coming. With ten minutes to go in the first half, Bednarek found Francisco Moura behind Tavernier, and the fullback took advantage of miscommunication between the captain and the opposing goalkeeper to tap in with his heel and make it 2-1.

Before the break (41m), William Gomes took a precise corner kick from the right and, in a dispute with Bednarek, Emmanuel Fernandez - who had been in the spotlight shortly before for making an impetuous tackle on Pepê inside the area, which sparked protests - put the ball into his own net (3-1).

After the break, the Dragons adapted to a clearly attacking Rangers, Alberto Costa and William Gomes came off at the hour mark to be replaced by Martim Fernandes and Borja Sainz, Pablo Rosario and Deniz Gül replaced Victor Froholdt and Samu in the 67th minute, Gabri Veiga came on in exchange for Rodrigo Mora (80m), and Pepê came close to increasing the lead in the dying moments, but the score remained 3-1 until referee Jasper Vergoote signalled the end.
