FC Porto faced Casa Pia (1-2) in the 20th matchday of the championship

FC Porto concede their first defeat in the 2025/26 edition of the Portuguese League against Casa Pia, in Rio Maior (1-2), on the 20th matchday of the competition. With this result, Porto now leads the table four point ahead of Sporting - their next opponent - and nine ahead of Benfica.

Francesco Farioli sent in Thiago Silva, Martim Fernandes, Pablo Rosario, Gabri Veiga, and Borja Sainz in the positions that had been taken by Jakub Kiwior, Alberto Costa, Victor Froholdt, Rodrigo Mora, and William Gomes in the previous match, for the Europa League, and the Spanish duo created danger in the fifth minute, but Borja ended up slipping and failing to follow up Gabri's perfect pass. In response, and on their first attack, the home team took the lead through Larrazabal (1-0).

Chasing the result, FC Porto settled definitively in the opponent's midfield and Gabri Veiga had two chances: in the 15th minute, after a pass from Francisco Moura, he shot with his left foot and missed the target by centimetres; in the 35th minute, served by Pablo Rosario, he allowed Patrick Sequeira to make the save. Shortly after, a long-range shot from Alan Varela grazed the post, and Borja Sainz saw his equalizer denied for offside.

At the end of the first half, following a free kick taken by Abdu Conté, Thiago Silva put the ball into his own net, making the difference even more unfair at half time (2-0). Alberto Costa replaced Martim Fernandes at half time and assisted Pablo Rosario for the goal that brought the score back to a minimum difference early in the second half (2-1).

Thiago Silva came close to equalizing shortly after - had it not been for a providential clearance on the goal line - and it was with Victor Froholdt and William Gomes on the field, replacing Alan Varela and Borja Sainz, that Gabri Veiga saw the opposing goalkeeper deny him another goal, this time after Samu's work with his back to the goal.

Oskar Pietuszewski and Deniz Gül replaced Pepê and Thiago Silva for the final 20 minutes, Pablo Rosario dropped back to central defender, and the newly entered Turkish international forced goalkeeper Patrick Sequeira to make another save to prevent the equalizer that had been coming for a long time. William Gomes was shown a red card in the final stretch, and FC Porto played with one man down in the little time that remained until referee Pedro Ramalho signalled the end of the match.
