Jan Bednarek scored the winning goal for FC Porto at Estádio da Choupana and celebrated with Samu's shirt (1-0)
FC Porto went to Madeira to beat CD Nacional (1-0) with a goal from Jan Bednarek dedicated to Samu, who suffered a serious injury in the classic of the previous matchday, left unable to help the team in a demanding match in which the Dragons paid tribute to Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa. After the defeat in Rio Maior and the home tie against Sporting, the leaders of the table returned to victories and maintained their advantage over their Lisbon rivals on matchday 22.
Francesco Farioli changed six players in comparison to the classic – sending in Thiago Silva, Zaidu, Rodrigo Mora, Oskar Pietuszewski, and Deniz Gül to replace Jakub Kiwior, Martim Fernandes, Gabri Veiga, Borja Sainz, and Samu - and it was the Polish player, in his debut as a starter, who was the first to force the home goalkeeper to a save, after Alan Varela fired a shot from outside the area that was deflected by Victor Froholdt.
Deniz Gül tested goalkeeper Kaique Pereira's reflexes on two separate situations - first following a corner kick and then in a play that was ruled out for Rodrigo Mora's offside position - and in between, Jan Bednarek also saw the home goalkeeper deny him a goal. After half an hour of one-way traffic, CD Nacional came close to scoring, but Diogo Costa saved Jesús Ramírez's header and Varela shot over the bar in the last chance of the opening half.
Early in the second half, Pepê and Rodrigo Mora failed to capitalize on a cross from Zaidu, and the 18-year-old was replaced by Gabri Veiga in the 59th minute - along with Pietuszewski, who was replaced by Borja Sainz - and the Spanish midfielder provided an assist on his first touch: a perfect corner from the left found Jan Bednarek, who flew in between the opposing defenders to open the score and celebrate by lifting Samu's number 9 shirt (0-1).
Seko Fofana and debutant Terem Moffi replaced Victor Froholdt and Deniz Gül for the final quarter of an hour, William Gomes came on for Pepê after 89 minutes, and after six minutes of added time, referee José Bessa's final whistle confirmed another clean sheet for the Portuguese League leaders.
