FC Porto beat Rio Ave (1-0) in the 23rd matchday of the League

In the 23rd matchday, the leaders of the table secured their 20th victory. At Estádio do Dragão, FC Porto beat Rio Ave 1-0, with a goal from Victor Froholdt, and now has 62 points at the top of the table. Without conceding for the eighth time at home, Porto now has 44 goals scored, the same seven conceded, and 17 clean sheets in the championship.

Francesco Farioli had warned that the way the team took to the field would make the difference, and the 44,810 fans who filled the stands at Estádio do Dragão saw the coach's starting team come out spitting fire and reach the opponent's area with danger, but without materializing their dominance on the scoreboard. The breakthrough came in the 22nd minute when Gabri Veiga drifted to the left and played in Oskar Pietuszewski. The Polish winger got the better of his direct opponent, entered the area, and crossed back for Victor Froholdt, who only had to tap in and celebrate (1-0).

After the assist, the youngest member of the squad came within inches of scoring after a cross from Pepê (26m). Gabri Veiga was even more accurate in the 33rd minute, when he hit the post, and Alan Varela also came close with a powerful long-range shot that went just wide of the post. In the last five minutes of the first half, the number 10 recovered and set up Deniz Gül, who entered the area and was brought down as he prepared to shoot, but the referee saw no reason to award a penalty.

FC Porto came back strong in the second half and Deniz Gül found the back of the Rio Ave net in the 47th minute, but the goal was disallowed due to Oskar Pietuszewski being offside at the start of the play. Pepê and Froholdt forced Ennio Van Der Gouw to save the goal twice in a matter of seconds, before Nikitscher prevented Gabri Veiga's deflection from ending up in the net and Francesco Farioli replaced the attacking midfielder with Rodrigo Mora and the number 77 with William Gomes.

Pepê and Deniz Gül came off in the 75th minute for Borja Sainz and Seko Fofana, Terem Moffi made his debut at Estádio do Dragão in the 84th minute, Pablo Rosario came close to scoring shortly after, and Rodrigo Mora saw the post deny him a goal in the 90th minute, but the score remained unchanged until the final whistle (1-0), which came after Alan Varela received a yellow card that will prevent him from facing FC Arouca (Friday, 18h45).
