FC Porto beat Estrela da Amadora 2–1 on Matchday 31 of the league
Thanks to two goals scored by Deniz Gül in the first half, FC Porto won 2–1 away at Amadora on Matchday 31 and reached 82 points, sitting clear at the top of the table, seven ahead of Benfica and ten ahead of Sporting Lisbon, who tied to AFS tonight and still has a game in hand.
Pepê was the only change in Francesco Farioli’s starting eleven and saw Jan Bednarek create the first threat early on, following a free-kick from Gabri Veiga (4m). Deniz Gül fired a warning shot 14 minutes in, and, a minute later, Oskar Pietuszewski beat three opponents before being brought down in the box by Jansson. The referee immediately pointed to the spot, and the Turkish international forward made no mistake from the penalty, giving goalkeeper David Grilo no chance (0–1).
After the Polish winger tested the opposition goal around the half-hour mark, the star of the afternoon struck again. Ghosting in behind the centre-backs, Deniz Gül received a perfect cross from Alberto Costa and powered a header across goal to make it 2–0 (37m), as thousands of travelling blue and white fans chanted his name in Reboleira.
Jakub Kiwior was the first to test David Grilo after the break, turning in a corner from Gabri Veiga (50m), and Gül came close to completing his hat-trick 55 minutes in before being replaced by Terem Moffi on the hour mark, with Pepê also making way for William Gomes. Estrela da Amadora hit Diogo Costa’s post in their first real shot on target, but the Brazilian winger quickly responded in kind at the other end (67m).
Alberto Costa and Gabri Veiga were replaced by Martim Fernandes and Rodrigo Mora (69m), while the blue and white captain stood tall to deny Abraham Marcus in a one-on-one (75m). The home team pulled one back from a wide free-kick, finished by Jovane Cabral (2–1, 79m). Seko Fofana came on for Jakub Kiwior, with Pablo Rosario dropping into central defence (83m), and the league leaders held firm against late pressure to leave the capital with all three points.
