The newly crowned champions reacted to winning the 31st league title in FC Porto’s history
“FC Porto is the best club in Portugal and deserves to be at the top” after beating FC Alverca 1–0 at Estádio do Dragão to secure their 31st league title. “Very happy with the title,” the first-team squad used the moment to thank “incredible fans who always give us that extra push,” “a coach who got the best out of every player,” “a president who played a big part in the new mentality,” and “a club that exceeded all expectations.”
Gabri Veiga
“We came from a difficult season for the club, a year of transition. Before any goals or assists, my role has always been to help put FC Porto where it belongs. FC Porto is the best club in Portugal and deserves to be at the top. This comes from our work and I’m very happy. I think we introduced a new mentality, and the president played a big role in that, he took on big responsibilities and made strong signings, from the coach to players who came in full of ambition. More than individuals, I highlight the team we have. We fight for each other, otherwise we wouldn’t be here. We’re very happy to be back in the Champions League next season. Sometimes it’s hard for players to accept coming off, but we know it’s for the good of the team and to stay fresh at this stage of the season. We did a good job in the Europa League, we were unlucky with the red card, but we were the better side, just like in the cup. The coach’s squad management has been incredible, he’s brought the best out of all of us, and that’s why we’re here. I was lucky to find something beyond my expectations. I have to thank the coach for helping me improve, the president for trusting me, and the staff who do everything for us. This club exceeded all my expectations.”
Pablo Rosario
“I feel fantastic. Winning at home and seeing these fans… the reception before the match was incredible. They gave us extra motivation all week. We worked so hard for this. Congratulations to the whole team and also to the people behind the team, no one sees them, but everyone contributed to this moment, and now we’ll enjoy it together.”
Pepê
“We’re very happy with the title, it’s fully deserved for everything we’ve done this season. I want to thank the fans for all their support, we knew it would be very difficult, and they never left our side. The tribute to Jorge Costa brought an indescribable feeling. From the start, he always believed in us, even last season when things were very tough. He never let us drop, he always encouraged us and tried to guide us to be better. He was a true captain for us, and this title is dedicated to him and his family. William Gomes will be one of the ones celebrating the most tonight, it’s his first title, and he fully deserves it.”
William Gomes
“This title is largely down to Jorge Costa. He was one of the first to believe in us, and that was key to this achievement. He may not be here physically, but I’m sure he’s very happy for us. Pepê is used to these moments, he knows how to celebrate, so he’ll definitely be one of the liveliest tonight.”
Martim Fernandes
“It’s my first league title, and I hope it’s the first of many. I want to keep bringing joy to the fans and to myself, because I’ve supported this club since I was born. We’ll keep working for more. Of course, we deserve this title for everything that’s happened inside and outside the club. We showed our football to those who doubted us. It was a way of proving we could overcome everything. Jorge Costa is a huge figure at FC Porto, he showed us what this club stands for. It was a great and deserved moment. Aside from this, my moment of the season was the goal against Famalicão, forgetting what came after. The 2–1 was the one that made me happiest.”
João Costa
“This is a dream come true. We have to be an example for younger players and for anyone with dreams. Not just in football, but in life, it’s not always about success, it’s also about getting back up and moving forward with a purpose bigger than yourself. My return to FC Porto was exactly that. I thank all the FC Porto fans, and we’ll see each other soon at Aliados.”
Thiago Silva
“I couldn’t have imagined everything that’s happened in my life over the past year. I didn’t expect to return to Portugal and to this club, where I went through a difficult moment in terms of my health, but there was something unfinished here. This is my first title without my mother, but I’m sure she’s very proud of what I’ve done and continue to do in my career. More than ever, I dedicate this title to her. Joining halfway through the season is always harder. I only played half the campaign, but I feel part of this family. People said the team that didn’t play well was at the top and that it wasn’t possible, but we were never behind anyone. FC Porto is a massive club and deserves the utmost respect.”
Rodrigo Mora
“It’s a dream. I’ve celebrated as a fan before, but as a player it’s different, it’s a childhood dream. I’m very happy to be part of this group. A year ago, we were all suffering, so we have to enjoy this moment. Last season was tough, but today we are champions. Thank you to our fans, this club is special because of them.”
André Miranda
“I worked all season for this day. I know I still have to work much harder, I want to contribute more to the first team and win many more titles with this club, but this is my first career title. Becoming champion with FC Porto’s first team is a childhood dream fulfilled. The club has valued my work, I’ve received a lot of praise, but I always want more, to win more titles here. I missed this feeling, I was out injured for two months. I made my debut against Arouca, and the second time I stepped on the pitch I became champion. The season isn’t over yet, I’d like to play one or two more games. I’ve never experienced this before, but tonight we celebrate, I’ll stick close to the more experienced players and learn.”
Alan Varela
“I’m very happy, this group deserved to be champions. We showed our character from day one, and this is the reward for all the effort and hard work this season. Now we enjoy this beautiful moment, especially after difficult times like losing Jorge Costa. He was a great captain for us, and we had to win this for him. We’re very happy to give him this title.”
Diogo Costa
“So many emotions. Before the match, so many memories came to mind, especially all the difficulties we went through this season, but this team and the coaching staff are something to be proud of. We did the most important thing together: we lifted FC Porto back to where it belongs. We’re a very united group, with a great mix of youth and experience, and we turned our weaknesses into strengths through hard work, dedication, and high standards. That was our biggest weapon. Our style reflects unity and effort.
I want to thank all the staff who often go unnoticed, and the board, especially our president, for their support. There’s so much to say and remember, Jorge, the President of Presidents, Diogo Jota and his brother André. It’s an incredible emotion. It’s as if we always knew something good would happen because we deserved it. I want to thank our fans, we’re a different kind of people. Maybe rough around the edges, but very united, and I’m proud to be a blue and white fan and an FC Porto player.
We have always had a fortress. I told all the players that this club has never won anything without suffering, and that’s exactly what we did. We stayed quiet, always believed in ourselves, supported one another, and always put the team first. We suffered, but we managed to maintain our confidence and unity. We’re grateful that even our rivals recognise our quality. This year, everyone felt FC Porto was different. We have great respect for everyone and for the league.
Maybe this was my best season, but I’ll keep working to become even better. I’ve always worked hard both on and off the pitch, and that invisible work has always been my focus, but this title is down to everyone. The energy we transmitted to each other was incredible and helped us become the best version of ourselves. To win, you want the best people around you, and I had a lot of support from all the other captains throughout the season. The team was always the most important thing.
I’m very proud of all my teammates. Last season was a year of learning, and as a fan, I felt deeply disappointed that I wasn’t representing this club at its best. But this year it was win at all costs, even if it meant running through a brick wall.
Victor Froholdt
“We worked so hard for this moment. We played many games this year, it’s a fully deserved title. We gave everything every day, and I’m very proud of my teammates and all the staff. Now I want to celebrate with the fans and the city that always supported us, we want to give something back. We wouldn’t be here without them. They supported us in every moment, good and bad.
It’s hard to write a better script than this, winning at home and giving something back after years without trophies. It’s a deserved reward for our work. Football is about winning titles, and celebrating this with my teammates makes it even more special. It’s my first season here, and I’ve loved every moment. I love being an FC Porto player, I’m very proud of what we achieved.
Francesco Farioli is incredible, he kept the group together all season, he’s tactically excellent, and we have to thank him. After losing the title at Ajax last season, he’s now succeeded here, and he should be very proud. We stayed united all year, and I’m proud of everything we did. We were a team all year, we remained united all year. I’m very proud of all we did.
I love playing for FC Porto , this feels like a second home to me, and I’d love to play Champions League football here.”
Alberto Costa
“It’s unbelievable. I’m so happy, I can’t even describe this moment. Having my family here makes it even more special. It’s something I wanted since the start of the season, and now I just want to enjoy it. I’ll never forget this day. Tonight is for celebrating, we deserve it.”
